Just peeking in from time to time and see how rather dull and anti-semetic WTR has evolved. Sad Crying or Very sad

Uh, Russia is a bit anti-semetic too, you know. My boss is one of the few Riga Jews whose parents managed to survive WWII, and when my girlfriend's mother heard this, she made a point of telling me what nasty people the Jews are... (of course I don't really take offense to any of this because I'm not Jewish, but the same people that say these things tend to hate Americans even more)

I heard an old joke once. A Jewish man walks into a bureaucrat's office during Soviet times and says "comrade, I'd like permission to leave the Soviet Union and live in Israel!"

The bureaucrat asks him why, and he replies, "Well I have two very good reasons: the first is that whenever my neighbor gets drunk at night he beats his fists on the wall and yells that if the USSR falls apart, that he'll rid the country of Jews like me!"

"But what if international socialism lives forever?"

"Well, that's the other reason..."

Are you kidding? Russia as a whole is more than a bit anti-Semitic! You just have to read the latest headlines for proof of that. Not that every individual here has something against Jews, but many do.

Maybe that's part of the problem...here's a poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller, Berlin, 1939. He was a pastor in the German Confessing Church who spent eight and one-half years in a Nazi concentration camp.

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."

No !? I didn't notice that !
I am not jewish but got sick by so many racist and anti-semitic posts.
You know it is the first time in my "net life " I saw so many racist posts in a so short time in public forum. More is the pity these kind of posts are all written by native russian and only non russian react, what a shame !

I wanted to visit Russia this summer, I don't think I will do.

Does anyone want to talk to me via email as well? Wink My mailbox has got rather "quiet" lately. Laughing

If anyone disagrees or doesn't like my opinions (i.e. from any of my posts) or has negative views on them, you could email me and I could explain.

wizz, you can't strictly go by some posts in a forum to discover the belief systems of a whole country. You can't even sample that way. What percentage posts here? If you were going to visit Russia, just go. Even if your conclusion is a negative one, at least you can say you've been there and gained a bit of a perspective based on really being there.

I know that some of us on this forum have expressed and will likely to continue to do so,... strong opinions, sometimes too strong and sometimes too outspoken. But what is far worse than stupid rather dumb posts, are posts that are rascist, sexist, hompophobic, xhenobophioc etc. None of us are perfect here and of course there must be give and take. And I will be perhaps the 1st to agree that some of us, myself obviously included, need to lighten up sometimes and not take postings at face value. And of course this is sometimes not so easy. We all have certain "buttons" which if and when get pushed, well.. you know what happens! Smile

But aside from postings which people here regard as hateful in the true sense, I propose that WTR members just lighten up a little. It's spring, a glorious time of year no matter who you are, what your religion is, country of origin, polirics etc. I have missed many of you here and it is only a short-time.

Here's to Spring and New Beginnings!!!

Maybe this is the case if you live in the northern hemisphere but if you are in the southern hemisphere it is autumn Cool

ps: I think the word you so elegantly butchered when trying to spell was Xenophobic (pr: zen-oh-fo-bic)

I never really contributed much to this forum, but I use to enjoy it very much. It was a place that I would visit every morning just to check out what everybody was up to. Now almost everybody that made the forum interesting to visit have gone away from this site. Without the moderators and administrators stepping in from time to time this place has gone downhill. It would not have took much to nip the bullshit in the butt if it was taken care of from the beginning. It is a sad thing that a few people have ruined it for a lot of people, but that is the way it is. I am sure a few of the members would have been happy to step in to keep the place clean and interesting and I seem to remember a few of them stepping up to volunteer. So what gives? I am sure many people will come and go, and this site will provide some with usefull information, but I think it would be a better place if the we had the regular posters back. Every forum will have it's share of bullshit, flaming, name calling, trolling, and people with thier own opinions, but if the people who run the forum do nothing then this is what we get....a pretty boring place to visit. I will take my leave and I will probibly check back from time to time, but it will not be as often as it use to be. Thanks to this site and the people here I have a new found interest in Russia and I will visit it one day (not in search of a bride) because I have found it to be interesting. Thanks for listening, and to the site owners (if you even read what people write)....if your gonna have a forum you need to at least take care of it.
Just my opinion.

Frick,
Don't lose heart. This forum has its ups and downs like everything else. I think there is enough interest and good will to turn it more positive and up beat. At leasT until the next downward spiral! Laughing So hang in there and better yet, start up a thread. It's alot more intertesting to participate in even virtual reality than sit or lurk on the sidelines. Smile

I also encourage others who have recently left WTR to come home again! Smile We're just one big happy crazy family here. Laughing

BTW today is my birthday! No wise cracks agout age OKAY!!!!! but best wishes might be nice. Smile Bad enough my husband turned radio on 1st thing this morning and song that was playing was the way we were! I made him shut it off! Laughing

I see people complaining about lack of moderators here. But I see barely a few posts appearing here on most days. There is not much to moderate. Instead of complaining about lack of moderation, contribute something interesting, fill this forum with new information and new ideas and then those other "bad" messages will get lost among "good" ones.

Hey! You're right! Though it does get kinda disheartening when people try to introduce new and interesting subjects and like in a matter of hours the punks take over and change the original conversation to suit their own lasivious (Did I spell that right kiwiguy?)life-styles. Personally I don't think that the only good things about Russia are the bars, women and I don't find talking about everyones predudices very interesting.
