As far as the quality of medical care is concerned, where I live is irrelevant. People going to Russia to study/work/live should know that Russian medical care is unreliable and mostly bad, and should have sufficient supply of dollars in case they have medical problems so they can visit private clinics that now exist in Russia or buy private insurance that is now becoming available in Russia. It's not about action and change, it's about advice to make sure people are informed.

See, thats bullshit. If you don't know what you are talking about - it is better to keep your mouth shut. I am not speaking about how bad or good the medical system is in Cuba because I have not lived there. I am about Canada because I HAVE lived there, and recently (so don't try using that against me). You speak in your posts as if you know from personal experience and you say it with 100% certainty. Think twice before you make an ass of yourself.

Well I am sick (again) and had the chance to see better Russian clinics last week (and will tomorrow). But since everyone's talking about Cuban and Canadian systems, I guess no one want's to hear something from me....

Canada is a great free country. Maybe some day, in the remote future, when all of us are gone Russia will become like Canada.

Why would Russia want to become like Canada? So they can sacrifice all their culture and become just as bloated and bland as the West is? Shocked No thanks!

And Anya, since I'll be in Moscow in three weeks, I'm quite interested. Enlighten me, please. Smile

Ok, so Polyclinic No.2 MDV RF, seems to be government owned (or partially), and it is one of the best equipped and well-staffed (with knowledgable doctors) clinics I have been to. It was quite the opposite the other 'infection clinic' I had been hospitalized in. My insurance company paid for everything, so they only did neccessary tests (unlike the private clinic I went too that did everything on their pric(ey) list and charged everything to my bank account), but that was already 3 blood tests for various things, a few x-ray shots, urine test, an ultrasound scan of my throat and consultation. The clinic was very clean, corridors lined with comfy sofas, modern lifts. The doctors know what they were doing, and when I was having difficulty communicating in Russian, they hunted down one of their staff who spoke good English to be a translator. They said that so far initial test didn't show up anything strange or bad, but they wanted to be sure so they issued more tests whose results I'll get to see tomorrow. I also should note that not all clinics are open to foreigners, but this one is.

Yeah, Canada sucks. You don't have to pay to use the washroom. Maybe I should find someone to give money to so I feel better when I'm using it.

When you have money nowadays you can get wuality care in Russia. But few people have enough money to pay for quality care there.

Canada's health care is heading for two tiers, there isn't much choice. People are tired of waiting for years for surgeries. The province of Quebec has already ruled that people should be allowed to pay for surgery
if they don't want to wait. I think we all know where that slippery slope ends. The only real good thing here is our cheap drugs, Americans like us for that, if nothing else. And I live in British Columbia, so I'm not full of sh**. Ralph Klein in Alberta has been pushing for two tier systems for a long long time. By the way, I think Russia is a pretty cool country with a lot of nice people in it. I'd like to hear from any Russian who doesn't hate his own country, or at least bitch about it all the time. Later. Very Happy
