I understand that the Moderators here are probably volunteers and otherwise occupied some of the time, but having moderated other sites, I'm unable to comprehend the steady rate of decline this site's taking. To wit:
1. Winston Wu has been banned once, and then his posts were supposedly to be deleted when he returned under the absurdly ironic nic of 'romeo'. His posts again litter this board (despite the fact that he's no longer even in Russia !)
2. Affirmo's posts are everywhere. It takes 2 seconds to ban his IP, I'm sure.
3. There's a pyramid scam spam post in the "Moscow" folder that's been there over a week.
It's a shame, I think, that what has (and maybe has been) a perfectly informative site has been reduced to so little with so little effort.
Regards,

Not that I carry much weight around here, but I have to agree (like Affirmo does ). Moderation duties wouldn't take much, but they need to be done. An improvement in quality of content means an improvement of the quality of people who frequent this forum. |

It's not just the fact that there is the spam and Mr. Wu, but moreso troubling for me is the general lack of discussion.
I feel like if i miss a week of visiting the site, I really haven't missed anything. |

| tdk2fe: You are dead right! Instead of complaining about Winston who I think often posts curious and interesting information, try to contribute to the quality of discussions and post some intersting information here. I think affirmo's posts are rather harmless. Winston I think recently put up an interesting report and personally enjoy reading it. I don't think banning people because you don't like them is the right thing to do. Unlike in the real russia, I think freedom of speech should be the standard here. |

*for everyone - sorry for my russian
админ на форум, по всей видимости забил, потому что от спамеров избавиться проще простого так что либо форум сдохнет сам, либо проблема решиться... может письмо Дмитрию написать что ли? а то как-то обидно на все это смотреть со стороны |

Its not just this forum, but the entire site is falling apart. Entire sections don't even work anymore (like the language section). It needs to be seriously updated. But the moderators are full-time college students with real lives, I don't think they have the time, or patience to be babysitting this forum which isn't meant to be the purpose of the site.
And this lounge needs some topics. REAL topics. The only thing i've seen since I joined are anti-Winston bashing, widespread Russophobia, and childish tit-for-tat attacks and name calling masquerading as political dialouge. The Winston posts are the most popular while no one commented on Easter and Workers Day (same day, what are the odds?) |

I don't want to drag this topic into the OT direction, but alas, I cannot comment on my experiences in Russia until late August. I came here as a means to gain information I might need as a student in Moskva (not as a tourist, or sex tourist for that matter ). In the meantime, being a socialist, I am also "uncool" with all the personal tit-for-tat going on while no one even mentioned May Day, a holiday which, unfortunately, is literally not celebrated at all in the United States. I heard Limonov and the nationalist ilk were embraced by the Communists this time around (a party which seems to have become nationalist in itself, hardly internationalist). Time for another topic entitled "May Day Madness," methinks. |

Comrade (and others)
Hopefully Dmitri will see this post himself. I'm really not trying to slag off the Mods/Admins. I understand they're in a pretty thankless position. Hats off to them for what they do accomplish.
But I think there others here that probably spend more time online and that could, with little effort, remove some of the elements here (spam, bots, Winston) that seem to be lending to this site's rather quick deterioration. Other sites don't allow it, and neither should this one.
And it's not a question of contributing more. When you have pyramid/get-rich-quick spam sitting in the forums for a week, it's annoying. And Winston's a bombing-troll and NOT informative (witness that he's already been banned once before and is banned from other sites as well). It's difficult to contribute to garbage. Remove it, and the better elements return.
Just my very humble two cents/kopecks,

| This forum is what people make it. There is no point in whining how how it is going downhill. We all haqve a responsibuility to keep it alive, interesting and informative. That means that people should take initiative to start new topics and participate. |

Of course there is, when the reasons it's going downhill are beyond the responsibility you mention. Noice, please, that all three of the comments I posted above are not from people who participate actively.
Winston "bombs" the site and isn't interested in participating. He feels that he's a celebrity because it makes him think people are reading all about him.
Affirmo is a bot. There's no amount of your 'responsibility' that will remove that. It's annoying and moderators can stop it.
Spam messages can be deleted in two seconds.
All these things detract from the otherwise active participation. Other sites don't have this.
No matter how active, friendly, courteous, and responsible others are, things like the above will always destroy an interesting forum. If left alone, this place will deteriorate. |

| Right. If the current mods even bother to take 1 minute to ask them. |
