I know what you mean about the yuppie upper middle class back packer tourists. It is interesting that so many of them do have pseudo marxist philosophy and know jack shit about real life and how the world is. Do you really encounter alot of people from the states visiting Russia who are religious fanatics? I guess missionary types are everywhere. There are plenty here near me and this includes not only Americans born and raised here but alot of Russian immigrants. I don't object to religion per se, it's the intolerance that goes with it! I don't much care about preaching whether it is religion, politics or what ever new cause someone is caught up in. |

Go there for the scenery, the ambiance, the people, the food, the experience...to have fun....and yes to see the poverty; It'll open your eyes and act for change. Things are only slightly more "unsafe" than it is in the west. Most dangerous situations are avoidable and unlikely. Espeically in Africa. Espeically the really touristy traps. |

My dad's friends, who are Polish immigrants to Sweden, went once and only once to Kenya many years ago. They arrived in the airport, were put into a van and were driven many miles to their hotel.The hotel was surrounded by two walls of barbed wire, security guards were swarming everywhere, piles of broken glass stacked up 5 feet high in front of all the windows and inside it looked like the Swedish king's palace, except that there was a giant Kenyan security guard with a 2 foot stick in the lobby. My dad's friend took one look around and said to her husband "Kazimierz, we're in a white people jail ! "  |

You can also always get tattoos (call them 'tats') and piercings, stop eating meat and pretend that you're into obscure bullshit music and films. The easiest way to get sex from beautiful girls in the US is to sell cocaine.
e - Perhaps I've lived in NYC for too long, but whenever I see out and out poverty I either think of a way to exploit it or look the other way. I want Ukraine to do well because it's just embarassing for a European country to be that poor.
Cyndy - the thing with these religious people is that they come from small communities and don't really consider other ways of living. They think that straying from the straight and narrow is a result of having failed in life. Usually the church is the focus of social activity in such communities. In other words, they're completely sheltered and you have to handle them with kid gloves. |

About US girls, one of my friends spent one year in Chicago and told me he never gets so many girls in his life in a so short time. Well he had no money so I guess his french accent gave him an advantage 
One more thing : he has no tatoo and he is not a cocaine seller
You know, it is always embarrassing for a country to be poor not only a European one. As for Ukraine I am not worried like I am for most of countries in Afrika for instance.
Well in Ukraine they have :
- good climate
- good land to cultivate : many french farmers are living France to exploit lands in Poland AND Ukraine.
- good ediucation : I ve worked with Belarussian AND Ukrainian people and it was OK they were very competent, I don't generalize but according to me it was a good sign.
I think Ukraine had the capacity to restart an industry. I went to Aeronautic Aerospace exibition in Le Bourget (the biggest in the world) and I got surprised to see an Ukrainian stand.
If Yushenko succeed in getting rid of corruption and then unite the west and east part of his country, I am sure this country will be properous in 20 years. |

Your photo is a little scary, like if I was out after dark and saw you based on this photo, I'd pick up the pace. Perhaps you might have more luck with women in US and elsewhere if you toned down your persona. Looks are from from everything but you know what they say about 1st impressions. |

What nonsense! Is nationhood now some sort of social standard!?! What standards have to exist for a country to be embarassed?? A country should only, and thankfully in the real world it does, truly feel embrassed by its past actions and not because of its present social standing. Europe and Japan, pariticualary Germany, are embrassed because of its past actions and have been doing and acting in ways to atone for it.
Ukraine and Africa didn't ask to be poor either. Ukraine as an independent entity has only existed for 14 years and hasn't been independent ever in its 900 year history. Africa was under the control of racist European businessmen and royalty who intentionally ran Africa into the ground because of greed and racism. They're all doing what they can with their limited knowledge and resources and money from the rich countries who don't seem to find things embarssing. And so what if its poor? Ukrainian (and African) people and culture are wonderful, as well as certain places in the country --things they've managed to build and produce well despite being poor. Shouldn't that be only thing that matters? Isn't that the only reason why you're visting Ukraine? For its culture and people? Ukraine hasn't attacked other countries just for the hell of it and commited genocide against other people --or on its own people for no apparent reason like how Germany or even Russia has. Doing those things should be (and is) far more "embarassing" than being poor.
Poor or rich, people will exploit each other. Period. People are sick and twisted like that and their aint nothing you can do about that aspect. If you care about the poor so much blaked (and whizz), why don't you join the peace corps or become a missionary or something? You genuinely don't, so don't worry about its poverty, go to the damn place and enjoy yourself dammit!!!  You'd do more to help them solve their poverty problems by going there and seeing their country and spending money there, than avoiding the country and whining about it in a chat room.
You obviously aren't very rich blaked and whizz. Are you an embarassment??? Really!!!

LOL....Thanx for that nice warm welcome! lol. As you can see....I have changed my pic...I AM capable of looking "normal". BUT I prefer to look more punk or goth. Hope this pic pleases you. LMFAO! As for my luck with women in the US....I have no problems. I am just very familiar with how most women in this country think. They are beyond shallow, as are alot of the men, but women are even more so, because in my opinion, they are too damned spoiled, too "pop" oriented, and take way too much for granted. I am going to Russia for 6 months in June, but do not have plans to try to get into the pants of every Russian girl I meet. I actually have respect for ANYONE who has similar respect for themselves and others. Most women here in the US have no respect for themselves and would rather sleep with some hateful, abusive rich person, or someone with a foreign accent (or, yes, drugs) than someone who might be considered "normal", middle-class, and who would actually treat them with some respect. I don't mean to offend.....but that's just the reality of this countrie's women. |

You should be fine Vic. As long as your accent doesn't sound too much like Borat from Ali G or go overkill on the black and look like a vampire like men from Eastern Europe and Russia that I see in clubs and bars.
Then again, I heard somehwere that girls think Borat's hot. You should see all of the hot chicks on his friendster profile.
Vic's right, you gotta have some game in addition to the cash and the clothes if you wanna get into the pants of most of the women in this country or if you want chicks to overlook the fact that your broke and dorky.
Star: Wont say that your wrong, but then again, i've seen that in lots of foreign women too. Probably more often than American chicks. Go to any Russian bride hunting website and see if some of those women fit your profile. You'd be suprised. |
