Is there an available sea-based travel service that connects Alaska to Russia?

Hi all,

I also need to find out about crossing to Alaska over the Bering Strait. Needs to be a car ferry too. Alternately does anyone have any useful information or links on shipping a vehicle via air? Currently this is a thorn in the side of an otherwise feasible trip and money is not a major consideration either.

Many thanks,
Ben

Are there air freight or haulage carriers that would transport a vehicle? Doesn't necessarily have to be from the coast, just reasonably near it, we're gonna be coming from Vladivostok, so the quickest from there. Any Options?

Cheers,
Ben

The most easterly part of the russian road 'network' is really the port of Magadan. The road goes from Skovorodino to Magadan. It is known as the road of bones. You need a 4x4 or better still a truck and to travel in later summer when the rivers are lowest. Beyond Magadan, there is no joined up road network, only ports along the coast with limited road network in the surrounding area. Most of these wild wooly areas have no roads and no people. Chukotka the mosty easterly area requires a special permit to get a visa to go there and from the port of Anadyr you would probably be able to get to Providenia. So basically, you will have to leave Russia from either Vladivostock or Magadan.
Vladivostock has a regular ferry service to Japan, from where I imagine you might be able to ship your vehicle in a 20' container to Anchorage. If you are feeling flush, no doubt it could be airfreighted also.
