It is much better to listen to MP3 stations listed at http://www.shoutcast.com

Just type Russian in the search list at the top left of the list and you get at least two pages of stations, about 30 - 40 in total. My favourite at the moment is Nazad V SSSR (Back to the USSR) which plays music recorded between 1905 and 1991.

But if you want to learn Russian then the best station is the Voice of Russia. Go to this page http://www.vor.ru/Audio/audio.phtml
Scroll down the list and look for the lines with the blinking blue speakers in column 4. Click on the one for the Russian language service, either Russkoe Mezhdunarodnoe Radio or Vsemirnaya Russkaya Sluzhba. This is a Windows media stream. I play it on my Mac OS X machine using Windows media player for Macintosh.

The next best station for learning Russian is Russkoe Radio. This is rather like the BBC of Russia. It plays 99% Russian music, news and commentary including some phone-in programs. Only rarely will you hear an English language song here. http://www.rusradio.ru and click on Slushayte Seychas. If you "View Source" of the little pop-up window with the Windows media player then you can copy this URL mms://217.16.18.76/32K which allows you to play it on your Mac.
If you want to hear more 70s and 80s music, then check out http://www.rusradio2.ru.

Thanks Sputnick, I seem to have the worst luck when it comes to my media players, I still can't get it to work. Oh well, I'll just have to get a new computer. Crying or Very sad

And thank you too, wavetossed. It's always hard to get Russian stations to play on my Mac, but that little trick worked. Listening to it, I can almost pretend I'm back in the obshag, studying verbs.
