I have a few tats, two of which are on my arms so they are quite visable in short sleeves. I have been to Russia mostly during summer , and other than a few stares in the smaller cities(mostly older people) and the occasional question, they have not really caused much sensation. The younger crowd pays more attention to them, and I always get very nice comments along with" how much did they cost?" I think this is a big issue there, it is harder for the average yuri or ira to come up with the cash for a tatoo. I always explain that is just as hard for me to come up with the cash as well!!!
Anyway, as long as they are not offensive you should be fine, I have found the russians to be very appreciative of good ink and very open minded. Very Happy

Renwan, that's an incredibly stupid comment to make considering that you haven't seen anyone else's tattoo! Rolling Eyes

Tracey, did you get all of your tattoos in the US? Are you even American? We're definitely on the same wavelength regarding this thread, and I appreciate your input.

Regarding my current tattoo, and the 1-2 I intend to get before I leave, they're certainly not "offensive." My current tattoo is a Frank Frazetta piece, a "Death Dealer" I've never seen anywhere else, much less on anyone else's body (black work piece). I'll try to drag up a picture of it and post it here - I know one is around here somewhere. I'll likely be getting the bulk of my remaining work in Japanese style.

well thank you, I am American, but I really like to travel and have spent some time in Russia and Europe. My one arm band is byzantine, around 12th century taken from a illuminated russian bible(you know they used to paint the borders of the pages), the cool thing about it is that the artist used all color, no black at all, and the other arm is a gothic crucifix with some Latin that my husband designed, he is from Slovakia and loves all thing Russian!(go figure!!) put your pics up, I am interested!! Laughing

Tattoos have a lot of symbolic meaning in the criminal world, but if you're not part of that world, I guess you don't have to go into that.

I remember the site was www.policeman.ru, which was run by a detective friend in Vladivostok, but it seems that some things has changed and I can't locate the tattoo site. It made for interesting reading!

Also, I'm aware that someone has done a book about Moscow tattoo parlours and it was featured in The Moscow Times... you could go dig around the archives.
