Why Germany? You're like the first Dutch person i've met that wants to go to Germany for other reasons and not to throw pies at its football team.
BTW: could you uhm....delete that first post of the copy. My bad! |

I know I missed all the 3rd page posts since you guys went "way out" for me (I'll get back into it, I promise), but I'm a big fan of Germany. Much to the chagrin of most of the neo-liberals (or neo-cons) on this forum, I've spent the entirety of my "German time" in the East, and support their fight for equal rights in their own country. Let the flames begin! |

I could use an elusive ol' french saying :
"There are reasons that the Reason can t explain"
but the reasons are very clear here : de Villepin is a long time friend, Sarkozy is positioning himself as a rival. Shröder has shown political courage by applying unpopular reforms, Chirac has been delaying them for 10 years, in fear of losing his position. Their reactions to political failures are in coherence with their acts.
The strength of the dutch "nee" is amazing. I ll let Rick comment on it and reflect dutch medias interpretations.
Is this constitutional treaty dead? In its current form I fear yes, if Blair refuses to give a chance to renegociation, by refusing to organise the referendum in GB (then the 20/25 renegociation logic couldn t apply).
Does this mean the European Union is doomed. Certainly not. The european construction has seen other crises and keeps on progressing. Globalisation is a powerful cement with the usamerican pressure to the West and the chinese and indian ones to the East. It s more than likely that the Nice Treaty will be amended to allow to vote european laws at the majority instead of unanimity. |
