At last, we start to see some balanced press coverage of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his criminal activities. The recent conviction for tax evasion only scratches the surface, just like the U.S. trials of Mafia leaders for tax evasion in the 1960's.

And for those who think that somehow Putin is an all-powerful dictator who is directly responsible for Khodorkovsky's downfall, guess again. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=2757&popup_delayed=1

The arrest and trial of Khodorkovsky has always been a carefully chosen action to deal with the worst of the oligarchs in a way that did not provoke the oligarchs to attack but actually motivated the oligarchs to clean up their act. Putin is a master of politics, the art of compromise, checks and balances, steady movement forward one step at a time.

Now, when will we start to investigate the people who are promoting Khodorkovsky as the innocent victim of the Russian state? What do they have to hide? How many American businessmen and politicians participated in the criminal activities of Khodorkovsky? American citizens are not allowed to carry out criminal activities in other countries where the law is weak. So if Americans were involved in political murders in Russia, they are liable to prosecution in the USA. If Americans bribed politicians in Russia, then they are liable to prosecution in the USA.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The Khodorkovsky conviction is a watershed.

Yes, when you seek balanced press coverage your first stop should always be Pravda online. My God, have you read their 'About Us' page?

Incidentally, I know the former English-language editor of Pravda. He's an ultra Russian nationalist, a raving anti-Semite, fervently anti-US and a general nutcase all round. So there might be a little bit more than a twinge of anti-Khodorkovsky bias at this publication.

Nothing personal here, mate. Was just amused that you would reference Pravda as a balanced source.
