|
|
I’m curious to know what styles of music WTR users like and who some of there favorite artists or bands are. Here is my list.
My favorite styles of music are: Pop/Rock, Adult Alternative, Latin, Euro-dance, and World
My favorite artist of all time is Shakira if you already didn’t know. I like her style of music and that she writes all of her own lyrics. She also gives everything her all and has claimed she has never lip-synced anything during her carrier. I would like to think when I’m not being lazy I can reach her level of creativity. I’m a very talented writer when I want to be. I also love the Latin style of music. Some of my other favorite Latin singers are Paulina Rubio and Juanes.
Another artist I like is Bjork. I think she writes interesting and eclectic styles. She is also weird to some extent which I can relate to because hey, not ever 13 and half year old is into the things I’ am.
But some of my favorite artists are ones that most people haven’t even herd of or have become washed up. I really have started to like a Serb singer named Ceca, she sings an exclusively Yugoslav style of music know as “turbo-folk”, which means it’s just folk music set to a more modern beat. You should check out one of her leading fan sites if you want to hear some of her music. The link is www.ceca.de .
When I first became interested in Russia last winter I became turned on to the infamous band, t.A.t.U. There Russian album has helped me learn some Russian phrases and words. The album also has sentimental meaning to me. t.A.t.U.’s new album should be out this fall and the single will be out this summer! The new album is titled “Peoples-Invalid”. The girls are guarantied to sing better than before, we’ll see.
Recently my new friends here in Harrisburg have turned me on to the Adult Alternative style of music. Bands like The Killers, My Chemical Romance, ect. Most of you in Russia probably don’t know who they are yet.

I like classic jazz from the roaring 20s when I’m in the mood to listen to it. Sometimes its hard to find old jazz music on my MP3 provider; Comcast Rhapsody. So if I can’t find any decent jazz on there I put my Chicago the Movie Soundtrack on and that works just as well for me.
Some older Russian bands I recommend are MIR and Leningrad. There classic and sound pretty good. I’m sure since there an older band you can find there CDs pretty cheap.
Have a safe and wonderful trip to SPB! Btw, way since I'm an airline nut; what carrier are you flying? |

I'm into the stereotypical "everything but rap and hip-hop" but I'm warming to some stuff. Modern rap, never...
But The Rolling Stones are the greatest band ever. Period. We don't even need to discuss it. |

Old... I do like oldies myself, classic rock etc. Probably has to do with growing up with the people who grew up with them.. I've been trained in classical music. I also listen to a lot of country music. I still do.
As for Russian music, I enjoy the rock the likes of DDT, Nautilus etc. I do not like 'popsa' though. And Tatu.
I try to enjoy all kinds of music--I'm thankful that there are so many talented musicians in the world to entertain us. |

I like looking at Tatu, but I can't say their music does much for me.
I don't mind 'popsa,' but I doubt much, if any, will find its way into my private collection of music (which is rather sizable). Anyone fond of Pavel Kashin? I can't understand much, but I like the "feel" of his work. Then again, I don't speak Russian yet, so maybe when I get functional I'll find the lyrics banal and taxing - but I hope not.
And Zach, music is timeless. If it's good, it's good. Period. Be it Rachmaninov, Bach, Marlene Dietrich, the Beatles, the Stones, Iron Maiden, or the Kaiser Chiefs. The year it was released has nothing to do with quality. And the vast majority of music released in the last 15 years is garbage. Plenty of it is great stuff, but the bulk of it is just crap, plain and simple. |

Anything listenable, danceable, and knockable except mainstream "Rap": Nelly, 50 Cent; Mainstream "Rock": Korn, Limp Bizkit; Happy Hardcore Raver Music, and most country music and Polka. But i'd rather listen to Polka than 50 cent and Linkin Park anyday.
DDT and Natilus are nice. Some Russian/Ukrainian house/pop music I find catchy and danceable like Viagra/Tatu, particualry. But except for Viagra/Tatu, and that was even years ago, you don't see and hear much of Russian music in the states at all unless you go shopping in places like Brighton Beach or the Richmond District etc. |

Has anyone ever heard of the Ukrainian singer Ruslana? She sings very well, she won the Eurovision Istanbul 2004. That helped her success and it also brought Eurovision to Kyiv last month!
El Casey, yes you’re right music is timeless, just don’t play Led Zeppelin around me. And why is it that everyone just looks at t.A.t.U.? Ok they are nice to look but still...
So far it seems like everyone here has an interesting and unique taste in music and I like it! |

Ukrainain friend of mine played a CD for me and I watch a music video, she's nice.
Outside of Europe, Eurovision and everyone and everytihng in it is unheard of. Especially in the US. Its a shame really; theres lots of likeable talent at the Eurovision shows. I bet if people in the states knew that one of their favorite groups, ABBA (not necessarily mine), came out of Eurovision, they'd show it a lot more.
Too bad Ukraine didn't win it this year. They went too political with it and that pissed a lot of people off including the judges.

Yeah too bad most people haven’t heard of Eurovision in America. And some of the great bands and artists that come out of Europe too. I had to explain to my parents what Eurovision was a couple weeks back. Eurovision was way to political this year. The lady who won from Greece looked so happy when Victor Yushenko shook her hand. So we'll see what bands and artists will compete next year in Athens!
Ruslana is beautiful, she sing very well too. She totally deserved to win Istanbul! My favorite song of her is Oj, Letily Dyki Gusy. It has a great beat and rhythm and she hits one note perfectly. |
