I am planning to travel with my sister-in-law and her new baby to St Petersburg in Sept/Oct 2005. She was born in St P but is now an Australian citizen, taking the baby home to see her mother. We are not sure yet of accommodation and this seems to affect what visa we should go for. My sister in law can stay with relatives, but they don't have enough space for me. It is possible they may be able to board me with family or friends or I will get my own accommodation. My question is about the easiest type of visa for us.
1. Do we need to get my sister in law's mother to send us a private invitation?
2. Do we have to be certain of accommodation? eg Can we just say we are staying at a family's residence on the visa but then change where we stay later?
3. We want to cause as little inconvenience as possible to the Russian relatives so is there any way we can avoid them having to get letters of invitation stamped over there etc?
4. The baby isn't born yet (born end July) so do we have to put the baby's name on the visa? Can we get a visa now then add the baby later?

1. Yes

2. You can stay you're staying with relatives and then change the actual accommodation, however, it might arouse problems with registration

3. No, there's no way unfortunately. Another possibility is to get tourist invitations for you all (make sure the child is in mother's passport). This way you avoid lengthy forms and queues for registration. But then you need to make sure if you're staying in an apartment that there's a company in this city that will be able to register your visa, because OVIR will not do that.

4. The baby should be in the parent's passport to be able to travel to Russia. So, I guess you will have to apply for your visa support (invitations) only after the baby is born.
