Hi, I wonder if anyone could tell me their experiences about Russians in the UK. What I mean is, Russian women married to (etc) Brits who now live in the UK. Do they feel comfortable in the UK and how easy was it for them to find a job of some kind. My Russian wife and I (British) are planning on moving back from Russia to the UK and I'd just like to know how things are for Russian women in the UK. My wife is well educated with a degree in English & Danish but I'm not sure what her chances are of getting a job in the UK.
Thanks

There are loads of Russian women married to Brits in London. The Russian community in London is VERY large.
As for employment, it depends on previous job experience and fluency in spoken and written english. Jobs requirinf english AND russian much less common. Provided her english is good, she should have no problem finding a job. Also a certain amount of computer literacy - email/wordprocessing would be good.
I don't think you'll have big problems. My better half settled down okay and seven years later doesn't regret the move, but she still likes a trip back to russia every summer.

Jobs requiring English and Russian do exist in London. Mostly they are companies who are selling goods or services in Russia or companies that deal with wealthy Russians living in the UK.

During the recent Russia-UK economic forum we learned that there are 250,000 Russian speaking people living in London. Every day on the tube or the bus I hear at least one person speaking Russian. There are Russian food shops scattered all over the city. London has 2 Russian weekly newspapers.

http://www.ruslondon.com and http://www.rupoint.co.uk are good places to learn more.
