Nevertheless, regarding Chechens:
A vast portion of Moscow's cultural, scientific and economic life is owed to Chechens, so you are more likely to meet one who is polite, has money, brains, and is interested in the finer things in life, than you are one with masochistic tendancies.
Yes, Chechens also do quite exclusively own the Moscow underworld, but the chances of one of the heavies being interested in anything about you is small(unless you have blatantly got a good thing going..), and the lesser ones can be avoided by simple common sense(same goes for any mischievous Russians).
My advice is don't listen to any Russian who tells you they aren't scared of Chechens; because they usually are, and don't listen to the ones that tell you they are Chechens, because they usually aren't.
Most of the talk about them in Moscow is passed down from old ladies' hearsay, in any event, and either way you should be concentrating on having a good time, rather than worrying about police and mercenaries..

He will have absolutely no problems so how about everyone stop posting some complete b/s like "he will need $20 in his pocket" or that he will get beaten up in the metro. If he comes into the train with a big american flag and yells american slogans than maybe he will get a kick in the ass - but in that case I dont think anyone would blame the person that gave him the kick  In any case he is smart and he won't do anything stupid.
