A trick question! Hmmm...
Sadly this ugly concrete community could be anywhere. But since Rick seems to be going for the unexpected I'll take 3 wild guessesLos Angeles

Las Vegas, Nevada
A large metropolitan area in Spain
Los Angeles

btw the only reason I named 2 US cities is that I am a paranoid
schizophrenic and think that everyone just loves to antagonize the US!

I'm gonna take three shots at it:

a. East Berlin (or somewhere in East Germany)
b. Prague, Budapest Warsaw, Bratislava (or any large city in a Warsaw Pact country)
c. Any major city in the Baltics or the Balkans

Can't be Western Europe because he said 'Communisit flat' and they lack color or amenities you would find in a Western city. It most certainly is not Las Vegas or LA.

E,
Your guesses are too obvious I suspect. If by chance these flats are in Eastern Europe, no surprise to me! I think Rick is trying to make a point here and is not being literal with respect to the c word! Smile

Cyndy: You amaze me. Have you ever been to Los Angeles? Probably not, because it cannot be LA. Los Angeles is one of the most suburban of cities. There is a small downtown with skyskrapers in Downtown LA, everything else is just like Western Mass, only with palm trees. Not to mention areas like Bel Air and Beverly Hills which are simply paradise on earth... Los Angeles is beautiful. You should visit.

It is not France, those buildings are too large.
The longest building was in St Etienne (close to Lyon) and had been dynamited few years ago and it was half size comparing to buildings from this pic.

'Communist flat blocks'
A guessing game: in which city are they?

The way they are organized around patches of parkland looks a lot like Toronto Canada to me. If it was Russia there would be cars parked everywhere and little storage buildings, etc. It is too neat and tidy to be Russia.

Either they are in Germany or Holland. I'd settle on Rotterdam, or Amsterdam because of the little canal on the bottom left corner and the creeks that run through the complex You dont see that in German cities, except maybe Hamburg perhaps?

The winner for the guess the city game is.... e! Smile

On behalf of Rick, this city is... "bijlmermeer, most notorious neighbourhood in amsterdam. people throw garbage bags out of their windows their instead of into the containers"
