Hi I am Cal from Canada and I find Soviet history fasinating. I have been reading on the internet but would like to get a good book on The rise and fall of the USSR and everything inbetween.

Also I would like to have a book specifically on Russian culture what day to day life is like for your average Russian man/woman.

Anything you can recommend would be wonderful

Thank you

If I were you I would search Amazon.com
It's a great site, they have a Canadadian site too (Amazon.ca, I assume) and you can read from editorial and user reviews what those books are about.

You can try Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia, by Orlando Figes. It is a new book and well-recieved. Maybe it focusses more on 'high culture': the arts etc. But this also in relation to Russian society.I think it is interesting for you.
