Some people have suggested that we need a folder in the forum for people seeking romance in Russia. I disagree.

But I do think that the website needs an FAQ that directs visitors to other websites that specialize in non-travel issues such as immigration and sending roses and similar stuff. This website can't be the best at everything.

Also, there are so many people involved in dating Russians over the Internet, that they would completely swamp this site if we tried to attract them here into the forums.

http://www.russianmeetingplace.com
http://www.rwguide.com
http://wwwrussianwomendiscussion.com

are just three of the forums devoted to this topic. There are separate sites that focus on immigration to the UK or immigration to the USA. If you are a woman who is dating a Russian man, then you will likely find more likeminded people at the first of the three sites.

Easier solution: Dating service in the UK... you said you travel a lot, so you probably have a lot more options there anyway. Plus, no language barrier, beraucracy, etc, when dealing with trying to see each other!

tdk2fe:

I tried dating services in the UK and the women were too paranoid. They just wanted to chat online, not date for real. Or they were very picky. It seemed that they assumed I was just like one of their previous boyfriends and I had to prove that I was better than him before they would even consider meeting for a cup of coffee in a public place.

So I started learning Russian, joined a couple of Russian dating sites, made friends with a Russian woman, visited her twice in Russia, broke up, made friends with a woman in Moscow, visited her once, decided we were better off as friends, met a woman in Krovoy Rog, visited her twice in Ukraine, and now we are engaged.

In the course of this experience I found that waytorussia was invaluable for advice about travel in Russia. I also found the above-mentioned sites to be invaluable for advice about Russian women, UK visa rules, the pitfalls of dating sites, etc.

Mediashark,

Your guidelines for posting are irrelevant. There is a large market for information about international dating. More and more of those people will find this site and come here with questions. If you don't want to spend all of your time pointing people to your "guidelines" then you should have an FAQ on this site that answers the most common questions, just like the visa section or the train section or the Irkutsk section...

Wavetossed I believe is perceptive and correct that WTR needs a FAQ for immigration, dating, marriage etc. questions. Obviously this is not up to Mediashark or Rick to decide. However I do think that MS and Rick should have the ability to at the very least express their opinion on this idea, put out a poll or simply talk to Dmitri and his partners.

Wavetossed, I can understand that dating services in UK or for that matter anywhere might have a high amount of very particular people seeking other particular people etc. Why do people need dating services on line or otherwise? If it worked for you that's great but call me old fashioned, down to earth, cynical, skeptical/unwilling to spend my money on dating services, I don't think people really need to go such distances geograhically, financially, emotionally, intellectually or otherwise to meet potential partners for romance or marriage. It is rather sad don't you think when someone turns their back on their origin/country etc. thinking that members of the other sex or same sex for that matter are either not interested, not worthy etc.?

Cyndy: It's not that, that's the problem. People may have several other reasons to 'turn their backs on their country', or just have a different taste in partners.
Dating agencies are a bit strange I think... If you hang out in the right places, your hobbies or interests will help you in finding a soulmate in a much more efficient and natural way. And it will be more fun too, without all the stress of 'looking for a partner'.

Cyndy
I saw the avatar on another post and was going to ask who the character was in the avatar
was. I am having a little trouble typing due to huge quantities of beer and other things, had a really bad week.So needed to forget everything. I think I should have started this thread "I am an idiot" I have tried to call but she keeps hanging up. I think I will go back to keeping my feelings to myself, I think life is less painful that way. Why has this post been hijacked by people seeming to think I have have found this girl on the internet. Too many people here have closed minds. Have you ever seen the Magic Roundabout, (not the new film) My favourite charecter is Dylan - the drug taking rabbit- my cat is named after him due to his laid back nature.

nigel: maybe the subject is not really suited to post about in public. there are many things we can discuss, but we might make our lifes a little easier if we keep some things to ourselves as well. it depends on the person too, of course. but i think you should not have given us all this information, if you just wanted to send some flowers..

Чебурашка - you are right, maybe I need a "beer filter" button on my computer Very Happy that issues a huge warning to myself to think before posting personal things. At least I am not like some people who become violent after drinking, I just talk too much !!

Vitalsigns. you are probably correct, being broke does not worry me though, so long as I can pay for the basics in life (mortgate, utilities, food etc) I care little for material posessions. For example, two years ago I bought my mother a teapot for her birthday because she needed a new one, last year I bought her a car because her old one broke down down and her independence suffered. To me, both gifts meant just as much although financially they were seperated by hundreds of pounds.
