I myself live in St.Pete, Russia, but as an inline speedskater and bicyclist I've got lots of friends in Moscow. I could sure find you a Moscow local with decent English to see the sites, if you would be willing to do me a small favor in exchange.

I want to get some bike and skates stuff from the States because they are way too expensive or impossible to get in Russia. Ordering it to be shipped to Russia by regular mail like USPS is 50/50 -- it will either arrive, or it will be lost. Well, or it will arrive damaged. Ordering it via TNT, UPS and the like is cost prohibitive (prices start from $50-$80).

If I could order stuff to be shipped to your U.S. address for you to take it with you to Russia... :) I mean, given that you first agree to bring, you'd have to ok each item I'd order to your home address. "The stuff" is some skates wheels, maybe a set of ceramic bearings (light! light! :) ), maybe even a bike trainer (12lbs, that could be overkill but I had to ask, you know, see picture)...

Think it's possible?

I also need to say that people make friends everywhere in the world, I am absolutely positive you'll find somebody in Moscow with or without my help. Lots of decent people here will be interested to show you around just because you're from another country, just out of curiousity, and you won't have to bring any bearings or beads, etc.

It's just that I've happened to see your message and I'd really appreciate a favor like that so I figured, why not ask.

I have to confess that I already did it a couple of times and it worked. Very Happy

Were my messages really so gross that you have stopped writing in this topic?

Well, sorry about that then.

If I get to Moscow in November, I will help you out, because I will not be packing heavy. I might ask you for some favours though. I do not know what, but I might. Smile

Thanks! Thanks! I still hope that ajtst10 will be back because this bike trainer is on sale in a U.S. web store and you are in Canada if I'm not mistaken.

Anything you say! I can even wash and oil your skate bearings if you do skate (I have an ultrasonic cleaner for that). My wife sure thinks I'm a useless idiot but to someone who comes from a foreign country to Russia even I could probably be of use.

Smile

Not through the metro again !!!
I am only going to be there for a week, so my personal stuff will be a minimum. I think the bunk will be dumped in Moscow including Hal's Doritos and I think you wanted Maple Syrup. Probably heading to the Hotel then the Albion for some beers. First I have get to my flights in order.

Leonid, give me the specs and I will see if I get it locally. I have friends that come and go from Russia all the time.

Thanks again!
I'm working on it.

The trainer I want is Minoura Hypermag Alu with Remote.

The best price I've found so far is $219CAD/$180USD in Canada compared to $140CAD/$120USD in the U.S.

Indeed, Maple Syrup is cheaper in Canada while bike stuff is cheaper in the U.S. Are all of your friends that come and go from Russia are in Canada, or some of them are from the U.S.?
Wink

Here's a link for the best Canadian price I could find ($219CAD, they don't disclose their shipping rates so that's not the final figure yet):
http://www.silentsports.com/store/store.asp?action=show_product&prodcode=1745

If you happen to have a good lbs (local bike store) nearby and can compare their prices I'd really be greatful, but then they have to accept credit cards online or over the phone, and it's going to be a credit card from Russia. Smile

The plan was, I'd order it online to be shipped to someone's home address, when the trainer's delivered then that person looks at the size of the package and says, "damn, that's too big" and throws it away (then I'm SOL), or says "that's no problem" and takes it with you to Russia.
It's usually my luck. Smile

P.S. Please don't think that Russia is any worse than Canada or the U.S. We have these trainers available here, too! You can easily purchase on at...10320 roubles. Smile That would be $422CAD/$360USD. Smile)

...
I still hope that ajtst10 comes back.

First of all, it would give me a saving of at least $60USD, Very Happy and, secondly, I hate to think that my stupid reply has cause someone to quite the forum.

I can be a pretty nasty troll at local forums (inline.spb.ru, roller.ru, rollerclub.ru, velopiter.spb.ru and some others) but I always try to keep my manners when I'm visiting. Smile)) Seems like I screwed it this time.
