I miss tea with milk, nowhere in Europe do they have the same milk. I always try the local foods and drinks but really miss my tea.

Tough question: i like being abroad and hardly ever miss anything. Maybe i'd find out if i spend an extended period abroad. Some of my closest friends maybe.

Oreo cookies and peanut butter. It is possible to get them in Russia if you look hard enough and pay through the nose. And the funny thing is that I'm not American! Smile

If you miss anything, you have not travelled enough.
I am sitting in northern Afghanistan, and I am quite happy with what I find at the various markets. I consider myself quite adaptable though.
Cheers,

cdnexpat: It depends also on your way of life. We should distuinguish better in this thread between the personal and the 'cultural' if we want to say what we miss.
As far as the latter: I don't miss too much of it. Maybe some conveniences, like fast internet or ease of buying train tickets etc. But some of these depend so much on the place you visit. Or they can be provided for if you plan to stay away long enough..

I miss good food.
Fortunately, in St Petersburg virtually all of the food that I ate I loved. But in other places (like Czech republic for example), decent food is hard to find. Here in New York, one can find any kind of food and that's what's so great about this city.

Reminds me of this Dutch professor that got a very good job offer from an Australian university. He declined, because he didn't want to give up his year card for Ajax's soccer matches.

A lot of food seemed more flavorful to me while I was there.

Maybe it's also that your senses are sharper in another environment, with all the new impressions..
