Hi,
How many days would be sufficient to spend in Moscow, and in St Pete, if I am not an art buff (ie Tretyakov is probably out for me)?
Unfortunately, I don't have very much time in Russia and would like to take in all I can. Currently planning to spend 3 full days in Moscow; and 4 in St Pete (this includes visit to Peterhof & Pushkin).

I think you need to spend at least 5 days in St Petersburg itself, not including Peterhof and Pushkin. 4 days would be a stretch. 4 days including Peterhof and Pushkin, as you plan now, is not sufficient to visit all of notable attractions in the city. You will basically have only 2 days to spend in St Petersburg itself.
However, if all you care about is the center of the city - just walk around, look at beautiful buildings, bridges and churches, it may be enough. A good bus tour around the city with a good tour guide will save you some time and enable you spend your time more efficiently. 3 full days in Moscow may be enough if you don't plan to visit museums. |

In St. Pete, look into checkng out a boat tour, i think they're more exciting than bus tours 
Overall, I think there's a lot more to see and do in St. Pete than in moscow.. at least more thats interesting. But i'd agree with MrSpice, a good 5 days in St. Pete is probably best. |

| It will also depend on the time of the year you're going there. It's can be very cold in the winter. Then, many of the typical tourist activities will not available to you. Forget about boat tours or walks along Nevsky Prospect. |

| How about the end of Sept i was thinking 2 weeks is that good enough time in St Petersburg i am leaving from the us probally change planes in england hope no delays cross thing finger then from england to st petersburg so will 2 weeks be good enough |

| End of September is OK. The kids are back at school,a lot of the tourists are gone and the days are still relatively long, you will be able to do a boat tour of the rivers and canals, late afternoon is the best time. I do agree with the others though that you need longer as Pushin and Petergoff are a day each. |
