Should Lenin finally be put to rest in St Peterburg or should they continue to put him on display?

Why should he be moved? Burying him would mean creating a whole event around this man, who is a part of Russia's past, not of the present. Let him stay in his own place, that remiinds the people of his historical significance and where tourists can surely find him Wink

It is a macabre show, Lenin should be buried.
Who would want to be mummified and shown in public like a circus monster ?

I think he wouldn't have disagreed himself to be on display like this. He was a revolutionary after all, with distinct ideas. To the people that put him in his shrine and Lenin himself it was most likely a modern monument for a modern world.

Because of this, there's also no point in burying him for us: his shrine is a sample of a way of thinking that has a great historical significance and is therefore an important monument. By just imposing our own values on this we will loose more than we can gain.

I was told by a Muscovite that his body is routinely taken into chambers to make certain it is still preserved......it was her belief that what is on display now is a wax figure.
Any thoughts?

Ummm, I wouldn't mind being put on display (and pretty much "live forever" if I was a revolutionary or a leader of a nation.)

I remember this artist, that said they might 'throw his body in the container' after he died.

Lenin was considered a visionary, starting a new enlightened society that made a radical breach with traditional values. There was simply no way he would be buried like everyone before him.

Whether we consider his being on display 'macabre' or 'distasteful' or whatever, is of no relevance here. He is buried along the lines that his ideology prescribed for a great leader and visionary. It's a part of the cultural history of the country. You don't want to erase that...

That gives a nice solution. Bury Lenin and put out a wax figure for tourists.
Everybody's happy!

They had better not bury him! I didn't go into the masoleum when I was there ( no cameras) because I had a camera on me. It was my second day in Russia and I don't speak Russian so I didn't know what to do with my camera.Next time I won't bring it to Red Square since I've photographed everything there except Lenin's body. And hopefully he will still be there.
