I was just wondering if Russians hold some sort of grudge against Norwegians? I spoke to some Russians at some chatroom, and they told me everyone hated Norway after that incident with the Russian trawler "Electron". Apparenlty, everyone from Neo-Nazis to fishermen would chase me down and lynch me is I set foot in Russia. I know I exaggerate here, but how does Russians view Norwegians? And has this incident worsened anything? I've personally always thought of Russia as our brothers to the east. I don't think all the fish business is something to care so much about..? |

| I bet most russians (at least in St Petersburg) know very little about Norway and view Norvegians just like all other tourists from Europe. I think there's an image of Norway as a rich and developed country. I doubt too many people in Russia hate Norway. I think you got it wrong. |

russians actually don't care of the news about "Electron"
they're just joking on this topic =)
so don't worry
and the russian view on Norway is like that "very wealthy coutry with great social security.."
also russians will tell you (when they hear a word Norway) about A-Ha, fish, oil rigs, Oslo and Tur Hierdal (i am not sure that my spelling is right) |

Aha.. I thought they might had been joking. I don't think many people care about a small country like Norway anyway hehe..
And yes, he is called Thor Heyerdahl (He's from my town, and my school is named after him)
And what do you mean we're not in Europe? Of course we are. We are just not a part of that mobster run, undemocratic European Union. |

True, it would be very undemocratic to have to share oil resources wealth with Eastern Europe so that they can eventually reach one day the same level of social protection Some might call it selfishness, but we are civilised people here |

I wasn't thinking about Eastern Europe, but rather France, Germany and the UK. But maybe, when we run out of all of our nice resources in lets say, 50-100 years, we might think about joining the EU. By then I guess half of Asia will be members too |

| From what i remember those 3 countries are net contributors (they pay more than they recieve) so no risk for your petrodollars (as opposed to petroeuros)...we are not that expansionist that we want to make a euroworld, we actually refused candidates that don t have strong coherent cultural and historical links with Europe (like Morocco or Ukraine). The turkish case which you are refering to is more polemical, since half of eastern europe used to be part of the ottoman empire. |

Well, do you think Ukraine had any less reason for being in the EU than Turkey? And I thought Ukraine had started negotiations with the EU for future membership. Byt the way, what country are you from? |

Ukraine is part of the russian history and cultural zone of influence. Kiev is the founding city of the Russians. Ukraine opened its borders to EU members but reciprocal freedom of movement was not agreed. I m from the very perfectable and insignificant land of France, one of the 25 states of Europe...which can t count on oil to finance its social justice ambitions but aims to reproduce scandinavian social systems which succeed to combine work flexibility, public services cost efficiency and social cohesion. But enough compliments for now
