i saw a really hilarious movie on the train from petersburg to moscow but i didn't catch the title of it and i was wondering if anyone has any idea what it was. it looked like it was from the 70;s and it was kind of a treasurehunt where they were looking for something under a lion and ended up being chased around petersburg by a lion. it featured hilarious scenes like a flying cigar, a self driving fire truck, a giant matrioshki factory and best of all a lion in a boat on the canal. any help would be much appreciated!!

We already have this huge thread on Russian Films in 'Russian contexts, myths&truths'. You might as well have added this post to it..

Yes, it was one of the greatest comedies made in the Soviet times. It was partly filmed in Italy.
It was called in russian: "Невероятные приключения итальянцев в России":

Or in English: "Unbelievable Adventures of Italians in Russia"
It was made in 1972. |

This is the tittle of this film in Italy. It means 'Mad, mad, mad race in Russia'. It's, really, very funny. I've seen it this year in a festival of soviet films, here. From the same director, Eldar Ryazonov, I've seen also the commedies 'Irony of Fate' and 'Garazh'. They are both very good.

lisah: You can certainly find it in NTSC (American) format since there's a large russian community in the US and all of those movies must be available in the NTSC format. Google search should help you find it.
