Dear WTR
How many times does the site have to go down just because someone at the technical end cannot be assed to fix this problem ONCE and FOR ALL.
The site and forum deserve better. WTF is going on?

This has been discussed dozens of times. Everytime the server goes down (simply not enough space to fit the login sessions), we email dmitry and he will have it back up when he has access.

Dittrich,

Some things are not as easy as you might think.

If you can give me $500 US, I will hire a good programmer and he will get rid of this problem once and for all, exactly like you want. Until then we will have to cope with this forum (note, NOT the whole site) being down a couple of hours every week. Let's call it Profilaktika time. Smile

I'm happy to announce that I think I found a way around the php_sessions problem (when the forum wouldn't load anymore because there were too many users online) -- now this shouldn't happen anymore.

Please, let me know immediately by sending an e-mail if this problem occurs again. Also, if you ever notice any strange behaviour after you logged in (eg the forum automatically logging you out too soon), please, let me know as well.

Thanks!

I sometimes think that computers and databases have minds of their own just like a human person.
No matter how good a programer you have, no matter how much memory a oomputer has, they will sometimes fail, sometimes fix their own problems, and then sometimes it takes a human brain to fix them.
90% of my work is done on computers and databases, they fail sometimes and have to be fixed...sometimes I can fix them, sometimes I have to call in a 14 year old computer guru to fix the problem..then there're those days that I want to throw them in the stream behind our home Laughing
I have to manage my own business site(with database), that is no where near as complicated as this site, and it's a pain sometimes to keep it working properly.
Keep-up the good work guys Very Happy I know how frustrating it can be to keep a site working properly all the time .

That was just before I implemented all the final changes to the database script.

Dear Dimitri / SiteAdmin / WTR
I really appreciated the PM abut fixing the php sessions error. It seemed that the table was filling up and I suspect maybe did not always properly remove sessions once people had logged off in the many creative ways this can be done - eg tripping over the power cable - hence the table got full.
BTW the insider visa pages are VERY good. Note the London, UK queues can be avoided by getting things done before the summer rush (June onwards) or arriving very early in the morning. I get there at 0515 and am invariably first in the queue. By 0915, I've submitted my paperwork and paid the cashier. A small foldable seat, an umbrellla, a good book and some food. Starbucks (Coffee) opens at 0700 . I have met loads of interesting people in the queue, often on their second day since the first time they didn't arrive early enough. There is a premium rate telephone line (at least there was in 2005 May - now i don't know) where you can prebook times and just turn up avoiding the queue but I've never used it.
My method is not the easiest BUT it has certainty - nothing lost in the post.
Rgds
