hi, i've been reading these posts and seeing that people here have alot of experience. so i would be greatful for some answers please. well i am 18 from the uk. this lovely girl from Russia wants to come and visit me (she is also 18). she just wants to come to visit me for maybe 2 weeks or so (NOT WORK OR STUDY). she can stay with me all the time that she is here and i will pay for her everything while she is here as i have saved enough money to maintain her for the whole 2 weeks.
the problems are:
1. will this be enough for them to approve a visa?
2. my mother is on benefits. and the house is the councils. will this make a differese?
3.whose bank statements should i send? my mothers or mine? or both?
any help would be great. i really want to meet her soon. thanks very much |

| Chances are you are about to be scammed. Do a search for her name. She will have difficulty getting a visa. Don't send her any bank information. |

Wu,
I am glad that the jerks that maligned your name on this forum are gone (Dr. Fauste, E and such). You are one of the most clear thinking people on here.
When I saw his post I wanted to tell him: You are being scammed - you little mind, get out of this as soon as you can!
But I didn't because right after I post something like this, somebody like Wavetossed will come and say: "Do not listen to his advice, follow your dreams."
So I applaud your advice Wu! |

Please, dump her asap! DO NOT share any financial information with any russian girl you met online. Never, ever!!!!!!!!!! |

| I concur, its an obvious scam. There is no reason for you to send financial information, if you have already then immediately contact your institutions and take the steps needed to protect your assets and tell your mother to do the same. A tourist VISA does not require your evidence, unless it is different for the UK. Cut your losses and move on. |

Did you meet this girl before? If not, then it's better if you use your saved money to come to Russia first, to see where she comes from. In this case at least if it doesn't work out with the girl you will still spend your money in a good way.
If you're concerned about the costs, the full visa will cost you ?50, you can take a flight from London to Riga (EasyJet) for ?20 if you book early, and then a train from Riga to Moscow for ?30. Then you can rent a double room in Godzillas hostel in Moscow for ?30 / night and you and your girl will have nice holidays together.
Otherwise I doubt they will give her a visa if you make an invitation. You should have some status like a student or employed. Normally no financial information is required: you just need to write an invitation, scan it, send it to her by e-mail. In this invitation you should show that you were good friends (it should be true!) and specify her passport details, full name, and where you will accommodate her... You also need to send her a scan of your passport. The rest she can find out herself at the website of the British embassy in Russia. |

Do you know her full name? (Probably not:) Go to www.google.com and type something like: "russian scammers" and study everything about it. There's actually a website updated on a regular basis where they post the fake names of the girls who have already scammed others.
If she never mentioned bank details at all, why did you even bring it up in your first post?
And the reason people are warning you because there's HUGE FRAUD going on and a lot of people have already got burned. |

kenkenif: Don't mind the negativism too much. We've read too many posts by people who got scammed or that met a scammer. So you'®e bound to meet a lot of messages like the ones you see on some micro$oft products when starting them: 'Don't give your credit card details to strangers', 'Do not wash your car with thinner' (well.. that was Chevrolet..) Etc.
Don't do anything you won't do in similar situations back home, use your common sense and you'll be ok. |

| (vitalsigns) the reason i brought bank statements up is bbecause on the official UK visa site it says, sending her a copy of these could be useful. |

Do you honestly believe that you can write a letter, include banking details or other info and that should suffice for your friend in Russia to get a visa to the UK? It is a similar product as the 'invitation' that you will need to apply for a Russian visa.
Please, make a phonecall to the immigration department or a similar local service at city hall. They should be able to give you the required info. Then you will also know what criteria will apply to you if you want to invite a friend to visit you in the UK.
I would advice you though to just travel to Russia instead. It will be much easier for you to arrange for this. |

The invitation is just a paper that you write with your hand, sign, and send to your friend. This usually suffices. I mean my friends invited me and my friends to UK like this lots of times and it worked.
UK is very good with visas: they don't care if it's official paper or anything like this, they just make sure in each case that the Russian person has enough reasons not to emigrate, enough money to spend, and that the person in UK has a house to accommodate her. They are very good at checking, so if you believe you won't be able to prove at least one of the points above, travel to Russia by yourself instead. |

No need to apologize, he is about to be scammed anyway, so any warning is good here... but will he listen? |
