| Whats the best New Years greeting ? My friend has me to call her at New Year , I'll be calling her mobile so I don't want her to have a large bill (cheap for me though Skype to a Russian mobile is 2 Euros per min) I'm guessing she will be pretty drunk, it will be 4.00pm here so I'll be sober. How long after 12.00 before people go out visiting and doing the mad standing up on ice slides thing, I tried it after a few vodkas and got about 2 metres before a spectacular fall the rest of the way down. It was two days before the pain and bruising appeared !!. That wasn't New Year but from what I've heard I've never celebrated New Years properly until I've been to a Russian one, maybe next year eh ?..Sorry I've gone and rambled on again haven't I ? |

s novim godom....sorry, rubbish transliteration.
Lastly don't forget Russians operate on the Orthodox (or is that Gregorian?) calendar. Better ask exactly what date is the new year in Russia........
Enjoy

| New Year's celebration is pretty much like christmas celebrations, with all the religious bits removed. Parties, drinking, exchanging presents, putting up the 'new year tree' etc. Some people also celebrate the 'old new year', which is the othrodox date of the new year. |

When I get home from celebrating New Year I might login and wish you a happy new year. Hope you have a good night too !!! |

С новым годом, ребята!
And New Year's in Russia is on the lunar calendar. It's celebrated on December 31, like in the rest of the world. Christmas and Easter are still on the Orthodox calendar, i.e. Christmas is celebrated on Jan. 7th (it's purely a religious holiday in Russia).
I won't be back until the 5th, but I'm ready to come back! I love Russia! |
