vorteks,
all you say is nice but naive, people wjo have more touch with reality would say it doesnt work always.
i can give you thousands of examples when people were treated in accordance with the stereotypes of their countries.
the americans i knew were not let in in france.
a british guy who had a thai wife were asked once (in front of his wife) how much she cost him (they met in australia in university).
i was asked twice if i was upper class because i could afford travelling.
when i went to school i told one american guy a funny story and always asked then if he undesrtood the wit. coz was sure that americans couldnt understand more lambent humor.
etc, etc, etc/

For your 1000 examples of stereotyped locals reactions, I could find 10,000 examples of tourists that placed themselves in embarassing situations due to their lack of knowledge of local customs...but i m sure you and me have much more interesting things to do Wink If you read my last message with more attention, you ll find out i never denied the possibility to meet a local hillbilly anywhere in the world.

MrSpice, the riots topic was discussed in another thread, where I clearly stated they were no racial riots, since what unified the offenders was more their age and education level than their ethnicity...nothing comparable to real racial riots in the USA and GB (which made real victims) between communities due to the social insecurity, which enhances rivalties between ethnicities.
