I guess we non-Russians normally see Russians as heavy drinkers, due to their links with Vodka etc, perhaps not a fair assumption to make seeing as im a Scot and i sure dont drink whisky non stop

what i was mainly wondering is what is the age for drinking is Russia, and how strongly is it enforced.
Dont get me wrong, i dont have any intentions of ruining my experience by drinking to excesses and remembering nothing etc, just if the four of us were to celebrate our journey with quiet pints on the train, or in laid-back Russian bars, would we be ok?
By the way 3 of us will be 18 by the time we are in Russia, but one will be 17.
Will we be ok for one of the 3 of us to buy drinks for the under 18, as long as he keeps himself in control, we wont be asked for id for him as well??
If possible could any please answer this exact question for Mongolia, China and Hong Kong as well, though from their own experiences, as i know this is really a Russian-dedicated website

I believe the drinking age is 18. It's not as strongly enforced as in Europe or the US. Nothing is strongly enforced ni Russia except immigration rules and borders Smile

I think the under-18 law applies only to hard liquor like vodka.

Beer is okay. I saw a bunch of kids trying to buy a basketful of beer and vodka at the supermarket. The clerk only paused at the vodka, asked to see ID, they were under 18s so, they couldn't buy the vodka. But they were able to buy the beer.
