Hi I am new. I have read much but I have even some questions.
I live in Genoa, in Italy and I have a russian ambassy very near.
In november I should go with a friends of mine in Russia to meet a Russian friend for more or less 8-10 days.
I wouldn't she losts a lot of time to a "private visa" so I was thinking about using this site and this way.
But I have even two problems:
- If I take tha invitation about this site, when I will go in s. petersburg what exactly I have to do to register my visa? I have to go with her to a postal office or I can register it by you?
- It's possible that I will go before that to Moscow in hotel for at least 3 days. In this case I need to register visa to my hotel or by you and when I will go to s. petersburg from moscow to my friend I need to register again my visa or not, and if I need it, how?
Thank you very much for any reply. |

Hello
I have a very simple question, but I can't find an answer on forum or site.
I'm french, and Russian ambassy here doesn't accept E-mail documents, but only faxed documents(and originals, naturely).
My question is : How can I ask Way to Russia to send me voucher and invitation by Fax? On the form to fill in order to get those documents, there is not notification about the way I want to receive docs. (In introduction ,they only talk about E-mail)
Sorry for stupid question, but I really can't find answers . |

| Maybe you can print the documents you received by mail and then fax them to embassy? |

No, you can't fax documents to french embassy, the only way is to go there yourself.
But everything is ok, I just mentionned in the little comment (at the end of the form) that I wanted it by fax, and I received it by fax .
Всё хорошо!
But thx for answer |

Hallo,
I post it there wich it seems a more approprieted section.
Hallo,
I'm actually in Mongolia for a 3 months traineeship and after this period (my visa goes to the 25.9.2010) I would like to enter Russia with the trans-siberian train and go to see , Moscow and St. Petersburg.
I'm tring to get the visa for Russia (turist visa for 30 days will be perfect) but in here (Ulanbaatar) it seems to be difficoult to get a visa for less than 90 days if I get trough a travel agency to get the invitation.
Could you please tell me if with the invitation provided from this web site it's possible to get my 30 days touris visa at the russian embassy of Ulanbaatar? I also would like to know how much time it's necessary to get this visa.
Thank you very much in advance, Davide
P.S. I'm a Swiss (Switzerland) citizen. |

Hi!
I love your service, it helps a lot!
I still have two concerns, however. Could someone clarify them? I'd be grateful.
1. I am a EU citizen so I understand I have to apply from EU. I will apply for a 1-year multi-entry business visa. Do I have to specify where I will cross the border? (I had to last time I applied for a Russian study visa). Why is it a concern to me? Before I go to Russia, I will travel through Middle-East first which will take few months. I would like to cross the freshly open Georgian-Russian border but it might be closed again for instance, what then?
1a. I don't understand this part: "you can apply for a tourist visa at a Russian consulate not earlier than 90 days before your requested visa validity start date. So, say if you want to go on a 4-month trip to Asia and then travel to Russia, it's better to get visa support and visa before hand." But after these 4-month I would have to go back to EU to get the visa since maximum is 90 days before the trip that I can apply. So I if applied before leaving to Asia my visa would expire in the meantime, right?
2. If I have a business visa, will there be no problems for me to travel freely around (South Ossetia, Abkhazia) and hitchhiking? Will the border guards not ask questions why do I re-enter Russia from those regions if I'm supposed to be on business? Etc.?
Thanks in advance for answering!

1. No, you don't have to specify where you will enter, and the visa is valid for any port of entry. The application does ask for a list of cities you will visit, and it is better to include cities where you intend to stay. But as far as I know, there is no problem staying in a city not on the list. [Note: Russia has restricted cities and regions with special entry requirements. It is simpler not to enter the Russian Federation in such an area. If you intend to visit a restricted area -- or worse, enter at one -- you should be careful to understand what special paperwork and permissions will be required.]
Also, be aware that you may not be eligible for a multiple-entry visa, if you have not obtained a Russian visa within the past year or so. If you didn't get visa since January of 2009, I recommend checking this with the Russian consulate where you intend to apply.
1a. Example: I am applying for a 12-month business visa. The time limit is 45 days (not 90 days, as with a tourist visa). I plan to enter Russia on August 1, and will spend 4 months in other countries before entering Russia, so I am starting my travel around April 1. The consulate will take about 2 weeks to process my visa, so to stay within the 45 day limit, on the application I enter a visa start date of May 1, and submit my application on March 16 (45 days before May 1). My visa arrives (if all goes well!) just a couple of days before I start my travel. A month later, the visa "becomes active". On August 1, when I finally enter Russia, 3 months of the visa have "run out." But this is no problem -- the visa is still valid for 9 months more, and I can use it to stay in Russia up to 90 days (the 90 out of 180 rule).
2. To my knowledge, there is generally no problem using a business visa to travel freely -- no special questions or difficulties. BUT, Russia typically has exceptional police, security, and border procedures (up to and including armed military checkpoints) in areas where there have been security problems.
Because of the recent history concerning the frontier with Georgia, I think it likely that there may be very unusual conditions in that area. It is not out of the question that a traveler, especially attempting to enter from Georgia, might encounter:
* intensive and very skeptical questioning
* being turned back at the border despite having a valid visa
* getting stopped and questioned on the street by militia
* encountering road checkpoints with very unfriendly soldiers
* the necessity of paying substantial bribes
* arrest and/or deportation
It is realistic to consider that your experience may depend a lot on whether you look more like a typical Russian, or a typical Georgian.
I've never been to this region, and don't have any current information about conditions. Maybe it is much better, than the picture I am painting here! But if I were considering travel near the Georgian frontier, I would want to:
1. talk extensively with other foreigners who have traveled there during 2010
2. speak Russian really fluently (probably, you already do)
3. consider entering Russia at a quiet port of entry, and approaching the Georgian frontier from the north
During or after your trip, I hope you will write what have learned about travel in this region, and either post it on this site, or post a link to wherever you have written your travel notes! This kind of information is like gold. |

Hi Again!
Firstly, thank you very much for your extensive answer
I didn't know that I might need to have a visa issued in the last 12 months in order to get a multi-entry 12 months visa. The Russian study visa I have in my passport was issued in August 2009 (for one-week seminar), and I'm going to apply for new one in April 2011. So it will make it almost 2-years, but as you said, I simply gonna check it with my consulate (although I read in your FAQ that Poznan where I applied last time is problematic, although personally I had no problems whatsoever, so I might try Warsaw instead).
For the rest, thank you for your tips. And when it comes to my travel, I surely will share my experiences
greetings,
rozwal |

| If the answer you get from the consulate, is that you will need a recent visa, in order to apply for the multi-entry ... you might consider getting a tourist visa, and making a small trip (say, to Kaliningrad) during the next few months. Possibly, you could do this without spending much money. |
