My friend and I are doing two river cruises. the first from Moscow to St. Petersvurg and the 2nd round trip Kiev. We need to get from St Pertersburg to Kiev. What about the trains? is Luxe safe for 2 women? are there dining cars? Are there porters? What would be the expected cost for two in the top class? Inthe US food is included if you have a compartment--is it in Russia?

Also flying--I saw one airline that can get us there in 2 hours. Not Aeroflot which requires we go to Moscow and change planes. Are the other lines safe? What would be the expected cost? thanks for any info you can share. Very Happy

Yes, it's going to be very safe if you take a double (Lux) for 2 women. Whether there are dining cars or porters depends on the type of cruise you take, and regarding the food -- it's better to inquire at the cruise company directly.

Airlines -- have you tried checking Pulkovo? http://www.pulkovo.ru -- it's a St. Petersburg airline. Wouldn't use Ukrainian airlines at the moment, because heard too many reports about them being unsafe. There's even 1 that's blacklisted by a flights authority, but I don't remember which exactly.

thanks for your quick reply. The dining car I was referring to would be on the train. how do we get food while on the train?

Excuse my ignorance but which are the Ukrainian airlines? Is Aeroflot one of them? In the airline ticketing area Aeroflor and another starting with an A are the only airlines with Kiev as a destination. The one that begins with an A is only 2 hours for the flight because it does not go to Moscow first. Is that one a safe airline?

again thanks for you assistance.

Ukraine is an independent country and has its own airline. Aeroflot is a Russian airline.

There are two airlines Aerosvit and Pulkovo which provide direct flights from SP to Kiev. Pulkovo is Russian company, Aerosvit is Ukranian one. They share the same aircrafts and fly 5 times a week. The price is about 200 Euro including taxes.
In every long-distance train there is a dining car and there are kupe or luxe cars with additional services including meal.

Sorry for misinforming. I have never took trains without a dinning car. I have just called to Russian railway agency and they have admitted that there are some trains which don't have a dinning car. You may find out if the train has it at the time of booking.
