I was in Kazan less than 8 months ago. I don't know if it is decent enough to know but the city is undergoing major renovations. Old building are being remodeled, roads are getting a makeup here and there. Although, to tell the truth there's so much yet that needs to be done. Polution, just like it is in any major Russian city, is high in Kazan also.

I heard comment about "nothing to do in Kazan, not worth the money"- of course, i was with family- but I must disagree. Circus- less than 2 dollars USD. Opera, same price- sung, in italian, full costume and in a 17th century opera house- quite nice! Kazan University has something going on every week (a concert) and was very, very inexpensive. I visited the Kremlin, and thier "leaning tower of Kazan"- apparently a good place for bereaved princesses to jump from Laughing

I loved the city- it is too bad my marriage to the mother of my children is now unraveling. I will probably, after my sorrow is finished, go look for another wife there- just not one so spoiled and rich- something I did not understand could come from Russia!

I believe this link will answer all of your questions. When in doubt, always look it up on Wikipedia! That's my motto! Cool
