I was in Volgograd recently and saw a statue of what I thought was a woman with a man behind her, both their right arms streched out, both standing on one leg...It was a very impressive statue and I was unable to stop and investigate it...I would like to know the name of this statue...Also,what is the most inexpensive way to go back to Russia along with a motorcycle so that I can do some exploring in the Volgograd area?...POCCNR ETA KRASIVIYA !!![/b]

mbowles8560: Could you please upload the picture of that sculpture. Your description is like about the sculpture of a worker and a collective farmer which was in Moscow and probably they have the copy of it in Volgograd.

Yes, Ekaterina, I thought the same.

I can't remember the name of the sculptor - it was a woman I think - who created the original that is outside VDNK. She based the figures on a couple dancing.

I know there were some copies - or variations on the theme. One was made for the Soviet stand at the Paris exhibition.

It is an amazing sculpture. I had seen it often in photographs. But to visit at VDNK - it is huge and truly awesome.

I love the old Soviet 'iconography'. It is a pity that modern Russians don't appreciate it. It is now a lost 'art form'.

When I was in Kaliningrad, I saw the 'cosmonaut' statue of the first man who walked in space. Quite brilliant, I think. But now the statue is in an overgrown park that no-one visits. Here's a bad picture I took at the time.

Try this

Stalingrad will never be forgotten.
The main statue is larger than Statue of Liberty.

The sculptor was Muhina. Unfortunately the statue is not there any more, it was taken away for restoration but the people who had to restore it wasted money assigned to it.

Thanks for that. Apparently it's a problem with the inner skeleton, and they spent all the money on writing papers about how to fix it. Hmmm.

I did learn that the last statue by Vera Muhina (often anglicised as Mukhina) is in Volgograd, but it is the figurine on top of the planetarium dome. [/b]

Well.. with my background as an architect, i would be very happy that they do some research in advance, instead of just patching the thing up. You don't want crappy constructions in a public space.

I live in Volgograd for some years but I have no idea what are you talking about Confused Where did you see that? Do you have any pictures?
