hello from seattle -

what kind of camera will be best and easiest in moscow? i need lots of pictures.

i have a digital camera, but i am not bringing my computer and software and printer. what a mess.

is 35mm ok? what are the film processing proceedures, like where and about how fast and about how much?

is there a better way, like disposable cameras? is there something i don't know about at all, like a russian camera?

thanks in advance - reman211@yahoo.com

Reman,

From my experience in Russia, an automatic 35mm camera is best. Also it is easier to use Kodak film with "C" processing. Moscow photo processing shops usually have signs similar to ours when it comes to advertizing. Like a sign with a picture of a roll of film on it. They do offer one hour processing, but usually they take a little longer, but the cost is usually half the price as it is here. That is unless they have changed that in the last couple of months. I would also take the digital as a back-up, or visa-versa.....

I'm not sure what kind of digital camera you have, but if it stores the images on a device such as a CompactFlash card, you could fit 300+ high resolution images on a 512MB card. If you require more photos, your options are to take photos at a lower resolution, purchase a 1GB card, purchase multiple cards, or take your CF card to an internet cafe that has a card reader, and they can burn your images to CD.

By the way, not only can developing and printing be cheaper, it can also be better. I had photos developed in a small town away from Moscow and was very pleased with the quality and price. Just be aware that you may need to ask for prints from each negative when you turn in your roll of film. In the smaller towns, most people (it seems) have their negatives processed, then ask for prints from the best shots.
