I had a friend- she came over on a fiance visa about 2 years ago- actually, closer to 3 years ago, maybe slightly more- and I lost contact with her. - and she lived about a 8 hour bus ride from Kazan. Do you have some kind of national directory for Russians to locate them- I used to have more info on her- but I have lost it- she was a nanny to our children, and I wanted to see how she was doing after having to go back. Send her a couple of bucks or something if she is having a hard time.

She was very helpful to me and my family in a time of need- and I am ashamed I lost contact with her.

I wish to make amends- any help?

A friend of a friend kinda thing- may even be a rumour- that was how the conversation started- might not even be true kinda thing.

I just don't think there is an equivilent of a 411 in Russia eh?

I kinda posted this subject as a lark anyway- I write my cousin in law in Russia all the time, and I am heading over there again to take the kids to see their great grandparents and grandfather plus thier cousins etc in August- and I keep forgetting to mention this to my cousin- I just keep remembering it when I am at work, where many sites are blocked, instead of when I am chatting on line with my cousin in law.

My cousin in law and aunt in law are still business partners of mine, and my grandfather in law is a close friend as well.

Kinda Jerry Springer I suppose- but sometimes I get information about Russia on boards like this one, and even boards NOT like this one- that is more useful than the stuff I get straight from the region.

Take the business stuff- my cousin is young- so I am starting to be able to make him think "outside the box" more about business in Russia-

I don't know even how to explain it, and will probably do a horrible job, and will get flamed for it-

BUT- my opinions Russians give up easily and are discouraged by failure more than Americans- where the stigmata of failure is perhaps not so great?

So sometimes, when it seems I am asking a simple question, they say something like "oh, it is impossible"- and I ask "did you try" and they said "no, many poeple have tried, they all failed"- and I say "did YOU try"

and then they give me this puzzled look LOL

I am sorry to be crude- and there are many well thought out replies here- but does any body know a god damned thing about contacting someone they have lost contact with in Russia? Do they have the equivilent of a 411, or poeple look up?

How rude.

Hey, can you speak russian? If you can go to here: http://phone.rin.ru
from there you can access russian phone books for diffirent cities. Try to locate her name using the phone book(s).

You have at least to tell us the town where she lives (near Kazan is a vague discription). Even then, if it is a small town, I doubt they have something like 411 to locate persons. Good luck to you my angry friend.

Impossible. This website contents the phone numbers of hotels, companies and public organizatons only. No private phones. As far as I know, there is no phonebook in Russian websites contaning private phones.... Well, the only way is to call the local phone service. But you cannot do it from abroad ( I have already tried), you should have someone in Russia who could do it for you.

I am only angry when I ask a simple question and get oblique answers LOL

I thought as much. When I am on next with my cousin on the dot RU chat I will try to remember to have him look her AND her husband up LOL- if they are still married. That is probably the one thing of why I was concerned- she wasn't great at making good choices- sweet as can be, but sometimes as dumb as a rock. But she helped us in a tough spot- we tried to get immigration to allow her to stay- but , well, too complex a story to tell here.

I suspect that Fire_G. was right all along in her assumption.

Oh yeahh, there is a "people search" in www.whitepages.rin.ru., but you have to buy a membership first.
