I have noticed that not a whole lot of americans who are learning Russian can say the word "Íåò" the right way. It always come out as Nyet.

What? This has really taken me by surprise - completely stunned. I feel like I've fed a load of cr@p all of this time. A number of different resources I used have been teaching me that it's pronounced this way, and I swear I heard being used when visiting there. So, the pronounciation would sound more similiar to 'íèò' or 'íýò'? Confused

I just found this site for pronouncing "no" po Russki:

http://langintro.com/rintro/no.htm

Click on the little speaker icon to download a wav file of the pronunciation.

I know, I am surprised myself. The "e" in "íeò" should sound almost like the english "e" does in "spell" (Just a bit softer).

Again they suggest that you should say it like in the word "yet". It's an easy way to learn it, but it's not the right one. If you do use this idea to learn it, I would suggest to almost completely ignore the "y" in the "yet".

Maybe it's just me, but I never say it as NYET.
