I am looking to arrive in Moscow on the 9th of October. I would like to spend possibly 4 days in Moscow and surrounding areas, star city for example. Then head to Irkutsk for a couple of days around the lake, then on to Mongolia for a few days. Finally on to Beijing for the remainder of time. My departure date is likely to be the 30th of October. I understand that train times are the main issue when organising the trip so my dates are fairly flexible. If anyone has any ideas on the best way to organise this with out being on a package tour and spending a fourtune on extra trips that always seem to be included.

Well, it's very easy: come to Moscow, spend here as much time as you want, buy a ticket Moscow - Irktusk (better at least 3 days before departure), come to Irkutsk, buy a ticket Irkutsk - Beijing there and then spend some time at Baikal. It's better to spend not less than 7 days there and a good place to go is Olkhon island - see http://waytorussia.tv for a video.
