ah.. thanks media, 5_Zvehzda, Anastasya..

I was just looking for reasonable online translators. Mostly as a help to speed up the process of translating a subsidy request and it's summary.

Can anyone recommend a good translator program English to Russian... and Russian to English? Must have English menu's.

I saw you recommendations below for online at Yandex and Rambler, but everything is in Russian

Kind regards

Ashley

Online translator: http://translation2.paralink.com/
Offline translator: Promt
Dictionary: http://online.multilex.ru/

I prefer to use the offline translator because I can make a choise how "you" should be translated into Russian.

I've been using www.translate.ru

However, I found recently one you can download from www.babylon.com

Don't be put off by the fact that they don't use Russian as an interface language....they still support Russian well.

What I like is that they not only translate by word or sentence, and are integrated with any program, including your web browser...but they also pull from many different sources, including Russian- Russian dictionaries.

This is an absolute must. For example, if you were translating the english word 'race'...what do you mean, a foot race, or a race of people? A dictionary that reads a word, and gives a word in translation, has to take a guess at which definition is correct. In the long run, a Russian - Russian dictionary with the definition of each meaning of a word, is the only way to go.

So many others leave you with only a Russian to English guess (usually a good guess, but still a guess).

http://www.learningrussian.net/translator.php - I like to use this Russian language online translator. The only imperfection is that it is an automatic translator. If you want to be accurate it's better to ask your Russian friends to translate.

you can also try http://google.com/translate
A very accurate translation (compared to all others I saw previously, of course. Though it still has the problems of automatic translation systems, it is trained far better, so it translates not word-by-word, but phrase-by-phrase)

Hi, All,

I am learning Russian and want to learn how to conjugate Russian verbs. Is there a website providing a list of conjugated verbs? Or a website that provides the rules for conjugation?

большое спасибо!

Hi,
Since I started learning Russian I've been using many different websites, but my russian friend told me to get Lingoes, and it's better than any of the rest. It is a free programme which you install on your computer, then you download whichever 'base' dictionary you require - i.e. the English-Russian, the Russian-English (an English dictionary also comes automatically). The programme is incredibly easy to use. It also has an option for text translation which uses google translate, but I have no problem with google translate - I find it to be just as good as paralink, sometimes better.
Also, if you are learning any other languages, you can simply download other dictionaries for your lingoes programme, and switch between them with ease.

Lingoes: http://www.lingoes.net/

The best transliteration site I've found is translit.ru
however, a word of warning if you are just beginning - while it's much faster and easier to learn to type in Russian using a transliteration site, it is far better to just learn the Russian keyboard layout, enabling you to type in Russian on any computer, instead of relying on sites like translit.ru, and having to endlessly cut and paste...
