[moderator's note to all--please make use of the linguistic advice and infomation in this thread only. It is not advisable (and rather offesnive) to discriminate against potential tenants of other nationalities/race.]

Hi,

I own a home in Wildwood, NJ USA. I am trying to make a sign in Russian that says "For Rent". How do you say that in Russian?

Also, does anyone know what this says:

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Evan,

The way to write "for rent" in Russian is: За Арендную плату.

I'm not quite sure what the note says though. Hopefully someone else can translate it for you. Smile

I think it is meant to say

Здаю дом для 10 человек or house to rent for 10 people.

Then again I could be wrong

No, you could be right. I used Free Translation and they are not always 100% accurate. The translation I gave translates to "for THE rent" in English.

Evan - no need to do that. All russian immigrants know what the sign "For Rent" means - even those who just arrived from the airport know that. Looking at the map, it seems like your property is at the very end of the state of New Jersey. I doubt any russians would want to go that far...

Okay, that's awful handwriting, but these 'for rent' ads are often written this way with the word "сдаю" (I rent/let)

It simply says сдаю дом для 10 человек -- (I) rent a house for 10 people.

За Арендную плату is a bit more formal, but people should understand it.

That was my mom trying to copy another sign. We don't know any Russian therefore it's kinda hard to imitate the Russian alphabet.

It sounds like a way of attracting the rental property to only potential Russian/Ukranian tenants exclusively. Somehow creating the sign in Russian might deter anyone else from calling, since a vast majority of the population in N.A can't read the language.

But again, there's no guarantee wild parties won't occur whether the tenants are Russian, Mexican, American, German . . . or from anywhere else for that matter.

Yeah but the chances are a lot slimmer for hard working people that are in our country almost strictly to make money. Hell, they even told us that they were afraid that they would be deported if they were caught drunk. So trust me, I'm not worried about renting to Russians other than they left the place a total dump.

Since you like this way of doing business, why dont you move back to Russia? I will not appologise for being American! It is discrimination, pure and simple.

He can do his business anyway he wants to. You should apologize being a typical poorly educated/rarely travelled American. You're even afraid to travel to New York thinking someone is going to chase you or something. You should apologize for not making sense. No symmer rental for you in NJ!

No I wont appologise for pointing out the underlying truth! You should appologise for wearing rose colored sun glasses. Renting to illegals and discriminating against citizens of this country, is ILLEGAL.

In case you have not noticed, the hwol agriculture in California and in the US in the whole primarily depends on illegal immigrants. Here in New York City, you will be hard-pressed to find a cafe or restaurant that does not employ mexican immigrants (all illegal). Contrary to what you may think, renting your summer house to those Russian immigrants is completely legal even if they technically illegally here. Unlike mexican immigrants, most Russians that this guy is referring to, probably just overstayed their tourist visas. It's not the responsibility of a home owner to check their papers and visas. He cannot legallty employ them, but he can rent his place to them.

Over 12 million illegal immigrants live in the US today, in case you have no noticed.

Only SLUMLORDS rent to illegals, and why? Because they know that the illegals wont demand they fix anything which is required BY LAW! Slumlords dont check SS numbers, only reputable law abiding landlords check SS numbers. I dont care how many illegals are in the USA, they need to all be deported and stop breaking the law. What you point out about agriculture is funny given the fact that there was a migrant workers union in tact but illegals managed to screw migrant workers out of their already low pay. But that issue is neither here nor there. What he is doing is against the law. Whether he gets caught is not my concern. Rolling Eyes
