hi. can you please tell me if it's possible to decide how long you want to stay over at any one stop along the way?
for example, i would want to go tallinn - st. petersburg - helsinki, but have a few days in st. petersburg.
is the schedule flexible in this way?
also, if i wanted to book helsinki-tallin-st. petersburg - helsinki, could i do that - presuming i could pick my own dates? please let me know. thanks! |

WARNING
If you travel via coach from St-Petersburg to Estonia. Be warned the Customs Officers are very ruthless and will check all your luggage. Them buggers took 540 cigs off me, according to other travellers this is normal practice (may be a hang-up from the old Russian rule) |

Thanks for your understanding and support !
Wasn't really a sympathy vote, was more as general info. I can imagine that many things can befall your average traveller.
Only last week, 2 Russian Police officers stopped a German tourist in St-Petersburg. After checking him out, the tourist realised he was ˆ600 lighter, the tourist recalled the licence no of the Police car and reported it.
Guess what, it would appear that this wasn't the first time these two had done this and they are still officers

Probably it just depends upon the shift - we went to Tallinn in August by car, the cutoms barely had a look at our things. |

I believe that there is a quota for taking cigarettes out of Russia.
There is an enormous amount of cigarette smuggling obviously, since they are so cheap in Russia. I was told - leaving Kaliningrad for Poland - that the allowance was just 1 carton. Maybe the officials were within their rights.
I have travelled the Petersburg - Estonia route. The border is slow and thorough, but I didn't notice anything untoward. |

Hi
I have some questions concerning part of my travel leading me from Gdansk to Kaliningrad to Riga to St.Petersburg to Helsinki. It is a study trip with a tight schedule, therefore I need to know:
1.
Will it be a problem booking buses from Gdansk to Kaliningrad and Kaliningrad to Riga spontaneously (2-3 days earlier)?
2.
Will it be a problem to get tickets for the night train from Riga to St.Petersburg when arriving in Riga three days earlier? If not, how can I book in advance?
3.
It seems that Ferry Service from St-petersburg to Helsinki is still suspended? Is it known whether it will resume in summer? I want to travel this route on 1st of June. Alone, without a car. Do you know which is the best way to do it?
Happy if you can help me - I want to book the In-out-in-out visa soon.
