I am an American who will be studying in Russia for one month this summer. What kind of proof of insurance will I need to enter Russia? I have an American medical insurance policy that covers me worldwide, including evacuation and repatriation. Will my ID card be sufficient, or is there something more I will need?

Thanks.

Isaac, it will be better if you get a print out or a letter from your insurance company confirming you've got this insurance to present it in the Russian consulate when you apply for a visa, if required.

If you need to be able to use this insurance policy while in Russia, I would recommend to ask what docs you may need. I'd say the student ID is not enough, get a signed letter with contacts of your insurance company.

My university is securing the visa for me. I have now been told that Americans do not need proof of insurance to enter Russia. If I have my student visa and American passport, will border guards also require I show them proof of insurance to enter? I have an insurance ID card.

Thanks.

Isaac
