The deepest metro station in the world is the new Park Pobyedy station (the west end of the blue line, 8 minutes from central Arbatskaya metro).

Park Pobyedy (Парк Победы) is 90 meters deep and the escalator lengths is 126 meters (which is also the longest in the world).

All numbers and claims are courtesy of Moscow Metro officials.

Note, however, that some claim that the Pyongyang (North-Korea) metro has even deeper stations. There's no way to tell, little technical details are known about the Pyongyang metro. What's interesting (and relevant for this forum) that the metro, like most metro's in communist countries, was based on the Moscow metro. So it is also decorated with propaganda art, etc.

See http://www.pyongyang-metro.com/ for more information.

Yes, it´s probably like this because in communist countries the metro, apart from its transport function, had a more important one: to act as a bomb shelter with complete infrastructure.

Sorry guys, but you probably think too much of Moscow metro, in St. Petersburg metro lies deeper - 90 meters deep is quite ordinary here, some stations as Lesnaya and Ploschad Muzhestva lie as deep as 110 metres.

But still Park Pobedy is the deepest, so it's not that we think too much about Moscow - no worries about that.
