I'll be doing the Trans-Mongolian in November and would love some advice on what to expect in terms of weather. I live in the west-coast of Canada so am used to anything wet but mostly mild.

My packing list is pretty much for layering to fight the early winter cold, but how cold would it be in November? I'd suspect November wouldn't be as bad as February as someone described it in another post here? Should I prepare for wet weather as well?

When I am in Moscow, I am planning to catch a show at the Bolshoi. With limited space in my backpack, the usual dress options will not be availble. What would be an acceptable attire to attend a show for a female at the very least? Would a pair of black pants and a pair black loafers of some sort would be repectable enough?

Many thanks in advance!

I would pack for winter. You're dealing with an extreme land climate here. Spring and fall are not too long compared to temperate climates.

The west coast of Canada is the warmest area of Canada. Nothing at all like Russia, especially the Trans-Mongolian interior. It will be winter. Think maybe.....Edmonton or the Yukon.

Black slacks and shoes will be acceptable for the [new] Bolshoi. Black is always in style here in the winter. You could easily dress it up with a pretty scarf and belt bought in Moscow cheaply.

Rick & Overseas, thank you very much! I only read about what extreme land climate is like in the books so this trip is going to be a fantastic experience for me. Maybe I can snowboard wearing shorts after this trip Cool

Overseas_expat, I'd love to get some more shopping tips. I am thinking it might be better to just buy a pair of boots over there than here. Not that I don't trust the quality of the boots here, but I have a feeling the boots over there might meet my needs just a bit better with maybe cheaper $....

Thanks again to you both for your advice!
