Is it true that Russian women are culturally trained not to say that they are sorry to men?

I posed this question to my Russian wife and her reply was:
I never heard of this in my culture...and then she went on to say...if I think I do something that I need to say sorry or apolgize for I will do it...and if YOU do the same then it is best for you to do the same, especially to me...
I think so too! Smile

PhillipForTexas,

I can't tell you for sure, but I lean to the answer that RW, when in doubt, will not apologize. A reason is given in this article of Oct 30th titled: Russian Womem & Apologies.

Ronin,

Thanks brother! A most helpful post! So apologizing is a very significant thing to an RW and something to watch for.

I am concerned that the woman would always defer to the man. Going so far as to call him the boss. To me this is not a good foundation for a long standing relationship. To me, the man and woman should be equals or at least nearly equals. I accept that the family looks to the man as the one primarily responsible for bringing in money, assuring that the family and home are safe, leading the family during emergencies, etc. Men in the USA are programmed from an early age to assume these responsibilities. And though a burden at times, I assume them. But do not ask me to dictate every decision, including trivial ones such as where we would eat. Such a relationship I would think would quickly become stale, as it seems too one sided.

I prefer assertive women, strong in their beliefs, willing to engage in debate about politics, economics, and religion. And willing to make decisions.

What if the man dies or is somehow taken away? The woman is left not accustomed to making decisions about finances or anything. This to me is not the way a man would want to leave his family.

And by the way, I love your signature. I may copy it and read it from time to time-it is very touching. I was positively moved. You are quite a wordsmith my friend.

okay, why doesn't a russian woman apologize when she's wrong? It is just a common courtesy to your man. The same goes for the man if he should say something out of text to hurt or offend a woman. It is just the right thing to do. Now if you were saying sorry every second of the day then something is wrong with you or something is wrong with the situation but sorry is just a courtesy. Once would be good enough.

"Trained," you mean like a dog? They give her a biscuit if she behaves properly?
