Looking for a new social activity or challenge? I am.

I plan to learn how to ski cross country and in February do the St Petersburg cross-country ski marathon. Anyone interested in joining me?

I want to do that marathon (I don't think it's as hard core as a running marathon) but I've got a pretty social approach to the whole thing otherwise. I quite like the Hash House Harriers philosophy of a "drinking club with a running problem" - maybe this could be the winter version?

So I'm looking for other adventurous sociable sorts. I'm a native English speaker, here to learn Russian - so speakers of either of those would be especially welcomed. If there any long-haired Nordic types that can show us the ropes you'd be welcome too. And if there's anyone who doesn't want to ski but is interested in the mulled wine and whisky part then by all means get in touch. Come on! Embrace winter!

I'm a New Zealander (25 years old), reasonably fit but have never so much as touched cross country skis. Please reply here or email me: jameswestlake [delete-this] at [delete-this] gmail dot com.

Now we just need some snow!

Sounds like a lot of fun. If you are still there in winter 2007 I'll join you, although the only contact I have with snow is eye contact. Through a lage window with a roaring fire and lots of alchohol on my side
