I read in a book somewhere that Russians do not write in print or block letters, which would be the letters that show up on the computer. Instead, in Russian, if you were writing on a piece of paper you would use script (or cursive as I know them) letters. Is this true?

That's true. Normally we write in cursive letters (they are all connected), so you don't have to take your pen off the paper. Children usually learn how to do this in their first year at school. When I'm writing Russian I always use cursive letters, but when I'm writing English it's print letters Smile

Thank you, I appreciate you help, miss. Ha, I use print letters too in English and I am not that far along in my Russian to be able to write in cursive, but maybe someday! Very Happy

Hope you have a good day Miss Helga!
Buh-bye!

I can help you get some examples of cursive writing in Russian. It's quite funny how it makes for yet another adaptation after learning print cyrillic letters. Some more curiosities in it, if you're used to the latin alphabet...

Try this site for some examples:

http://masterrussian.com/blalphabet.shtml

Writing in cursive cyrillic does have some additional "rules" about how to connect letters (not taking your pen off the paper in the middle of a word).

A good source of information on the Russian language can be found at this site:

http://www.masterrussian.com

(go to the FORUM and do a search on "cursive" and you'll find some discussion).

Thank you all, you've been a great help! Smile
We had our first snowfall of the year today, that was pretty cool. Hope you're all having a great day and have a good weekend. I will check out those sites asap. Thanks, all.
