You make a really good point in your post gomer. I'm guessing that if the management team at Opera had to do it all over again, they probably would have done as you suggest and "gone to a free, full- featured browser sooner."

yesterday i have tested opera9 which its free and working good in my PC and i can say it looks like a type of safari browser and the skin like firefox. i have not tested it much, but it lacks some features available in firefox.

Spasibo 007India and good luck with your exams! Smile

I was thinking that since the Opera browser has had so many new versions that have come out during the past 2-3 years that it wouldn't make much sense to look at the older comparisons that were done between Opera & Firefox. When I get a chance again (probably after Christmas) I'll take another look at some of those articles from 2005 that did the comparisons between Opera & Firefox.

even though new versions arrived there, the framework for both should remain same, definitely for firefox as im using it from 1st release. you do one thing. put a network monitor software for your PC. then use both browsers in your PC and make sure that you didn't import any settings from IE. then browse them both and at the end of the work get the statistics for both browsers then you can see the result.

if you know the "netstat" command then its double good.

In my opinion the only difference between opera and firefox is the bundle. firefox is simple and with more features. where as opera ha got email client and messenger inside. but its not safe to use email client as it will download all emails automatically which includes virus too. also now adays thru chat virus and spyware will come.

Also in INDIA, now there is a migration to linux as its used much by developers. only people in house holds and some kids who play games use microsoft OS and the recent 'vista' is a big crap. when i go outside i will take a LIVE CD with me with that i can access any computer no matter what password is there i can break it and use it at my convenience.

In your place what is the concentration of windows and how many people are migrated to vista. its a very costlier OS. my PC has got softwares free.
