I dont think its a bad attitude , more they are being practical , when I did the research for my trip across Russia I looked into going across Belarus , when I asked the Dept of Foriegn affairs in Ireland (part of their job is to give travel advice about countries) about driving an Irish car through Belarus , the guy started laughing , and when he stopped laughing 10 minutes later he told me there is NO SAFE WAY to cross that country , espically by car and that I was insane to even suggest it , and given that my countries government will have no dealings with the Belarusian government that if I got into trouble I would be on my own
