I use my notebook here but am spending way to much money on internet access. Broadband is not an option as it is not avalible on my phone line. What is the cheapest service provider? Is there one company that offers unlimited hours for a fee each month? Just dial up. Thanks.

Harv, sorry to be not much help, but when I investigated internet access for my apartment here in SPB I only found dial-ups that were time-based, not "flat fee" access arrangements.
Are you absolutely sure your line cannot accept broadband? Avangard and (I think) ROL both have "line compatibility" tests on their websites (sorry, can't immediately find the URLs.... but there are adverts all over the Metro for them at the moment, I am sure you can find one easily).

Another solution may be to get it through you cable TV provider. Some friends of mine in St Petersburg have got DSL this way and pay a monthly fee for unlimited downloads.

Hi Harv,

Look for WEBPLUS dial up internet packages at subway station kiosks and other places. They have a good variety of options available. Some of packages are like "3 hours for 100 rub" or "5x3 hours for 220 rub", but some of them are somewhat like unlimited access - "from 8am to 8pm for 2 weeks for 200 rub" or evenings - "from 6pm to 1am for month for 400 rub", something like that, numbers may vary as i don't remember exactly. Check yourself.

Also, see these 3 options for broadband:
