Nope, I am not a fan of Mister Hugo Chavez but I am sure about 2 things :
1- he is not a terrorist
2- he has been elected fairly. All international observers said the election was a true one, sorry.
As for the meeting between Chavez and Bin Laden, seriously you beleive that ? It is the most ridiculous thing I heard those last months. I think you watch Fox News too much.
Well, may be he visited South America before 11/09 and what ?
He probably also visited Marbella and the south of France to get drunk like many Saudies do. |

I didn't say he was a terrorist...
Elected fairly...perhaps
International observers...?
Venezuela can elect who ever they want...as can any country...it doesn't mean we have to support them. Sorry but I have a lot of friends from there and thier lives have all been affected by Chavez...I don't support him. I don't watch FOX...mainly I watch Russia Today, or the Travel Channel, HBO, and IFC, and the Sundance Channel. Or I'm in the water.
And when I am at work I am on this computer like now. I was in Iran and I really liked that country and it's people. Too bad thier leader is so bad. Anyway..watch-he will be ousted next year. So let's see if I am right. But he is definitely going to be gone. |

Berry, the name does not sound Rus! I am not of the Left or the Right. I was from a small town in the Midwest- 2 hour drive from Chicago. My father was a union worker, but declared himself a Republican. My mother was passive, but a Democrat. And during many November tuesdays, there would be dirty looks across the dinner table. I never knew the word "nigger" until I got into middle school. I always read a 'global magazine' and knew of many varied people. But maybe it was growing up in the Cold War Era that built my intrigue with Russia (and the former CCCP)? The media always spoke of the "other" country with various verbs. But I was curious of the people. What made them so different? And it is now that my international travels have exposed me to the differed world that I had only read about that I have delved into anything Russian. I wish there were more Russian Classics translated into English! Although Ebay and Amazon have helped me possess some writings. Through public schools we have had to read some "American Classics." And I hate that term, 'American.' For I was in Rio de Janerio and was asked where I was from. My response of "America" was chuckled upon. The man said that I was standing in America. Of course he meant S. America, but it opened my eyes. Some posts on this thread used the term "Usians." Maybe that was intended to be "US'ians?" If not, then I will use that new term. I usually phrase myself as a "US Citizen" because of my talk in Brazil.
I try to respect all people. I am always talking to strangers when in public places. I can usually spot the Russians in a crowd. The facials features are unique. And I tend to gravitate towards them. I cannot learn enough of that marvelous peoples! So many North bound rivers! Rivers that are the transportation by-ways of the interior. So much unspoiled land. I pray that it does not walk the same path my forefathers took in the USA. The US Citizens preach to tropical nations not to de-forest the rainforests. Yet, what about the great woodlands of N. America? What did the USA do to it? If we could just phrase our sermons from atop the soapboxes as, "Please do not let your country become the decimated land that is our country. Save your unspoiled lands for you children's children and their dreams." But we try to force feed them "DO NOT ..."
Somebody talked about tribes in the USA. They are still there. I think it is absurd of the interior of some homes that display the "southwest decor." They try to glorify the American Indian culture without even researching the origins of it. I am embarrassed to be a part of the people who did what we say others should not do. As much as we may not admit it, it was "Genocide!" Does anybody remember the history books of the French and Indian Wars? There are many rivers or streets of many tribes or breeds that barely exist of the American Indians. Miami, Pottowattimi, etc. Go to upstate Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, upstate New York. The high plains of the Dakotas. At the phrase of, "in the name of civilization" or "in the way of progress" we forced the peoples off of their land. Relocate them to a desolate, unfamiliar place and expect them to survive. Yes the USA has many skeletons in the closet.
Today we still use the ideal of 'progress.' But it is now gadgetry. Palm pilots, Blackberry, or Mp3's. The status quo was judged by the family owning a car in the 1920's. Then it was if the house had a TV in the '50's. Today, is it how many computers? We live in the disposable society. We worry about how much work can be organized into a toy the size of a TV remote control. But we are building the canyon from our neighbors out our back door. Many do not know the names of the people who live 2 doors down. Money is the root of all evil. And in that pursuit of more income, maybe we have alienated our friends or family.
I watched my father die slowly from the effects of lifelong alcoholism. So as he gave his worldly possessions to various kids or grandkids, the ones that were overlooked bickered and sneered. And as my mother has gone on... my siblings are snarling and eyeing the remains of the family farm. And I worry that my mother will not feel the love that she had shown all of her children equally. Faults. We are human and we all have our cracks as California has hers. Russia has her skeletons and her faults. But that is also the character that flows in the blood of her habitants. Can we see the imperfections in ourselves? Just as quick as we see the same in others?
-----there you go gang, tear me up!

| Damn Frank...cheer up life is pretty good. I think we have learned a lot from our errors as has Russia. Tune into the History International Channel on Mon Jan 15th for History of Russia. You should watch Russia Today on the net-it's a good program. Conservation is a key thing. |

frank: When you say "we", you are referring to a group of people that care about the number of computers, small screens where they can watch a show, etc. In that sense, all countries are very similar. It's even more widespread in Russia where people feel that they have to buy an expensive German car to look "cool". People are always surprised how many Lexuses and Mercedeses one can see on the streets of Moscow or St Petersburg. Here in New York, Blackberries (wireless email) are very popular among workers. When I take the train to work, I see a lot of people working in the train using those wonderful devices. The global business often demands 24/7 availability. It's not always about how cool the new device is, but it's often about efficiency. Maybe you live in a place in the US where people pay so much attention to how many computers they have. I can tell you that in New York City where most people in relatively small apartment, most people have only one computer and don't feel they should have more than one.
And when you travel to other countries on our long continent (Noth and South America) you should say that you came from the United States. That's the internation and official name of this country. People, I guess, call the US "America" simply because for the past century, the US has been the dominant and most developed country on the American continent. It's really part of American patriotism and believe that US is the greatest country and all that jazz. I agree that this is somewhat naive. But I lived in Russia before coming here. I think you underestimate how all of the society's ills exist there, plus more other things you won't notice if you don't speak Russian and don't live there full time. All countries have their problems and issues. The only reason why you know so much about the American ones is because you've lived here all of your life. |

Totally funny! Give us your tired...your hungry...your poor...your stupid...
But did you notice how friendly they all are...something you won't see else where. And the blond girl was really cute. America is a great place...we even allow stupid people to roam freely! I guess what this video points out really...is that the rest of the world doesn't matter...not important...and that some Americans don't care...I guess it's great to live securely...where you don't have to worry about what goes on around you. |

Yes they are all friendly and smily but all those people have a big power : their vote.
When the guy say Kirgizsthan is a threat and will support the US President to attack this country, it is not funny at all, even said with a big smile. |

| Well I've been to Kyrgistan and have a very dear friend from there whom I am to travel with and see this summer...a lot of things come into play when people are put on the spot. And I am sure that I can go to any country and get the same results. Americans are some of the smartest people in the world and we are the most technologically advanced. We are also a 1st world country and set most standards in the modern world. So I can pretty much say that our actions speak for themselves. The question which pertained to Kryg said that they were hostile towards us and the guy was asked if he would support our gov. If any country is hostile towrds us I would support our gov in deminishing any threat. It was a funny video and yes it did point out a lot of truths about americans. But keep in mind democracy only truly works if the voters are in fact truly educated and un biased enough to make a logical and truthful vote. Unfortunately so many people only vote along party lines. |

It is a joke. It was a skit on a satirical Australian program and aired last year. We all got a good laugh out of it and it was probably unfair to edit out the two participants who gave correct answers. |

I think it was more comedy than anything, I loved the KFC dude's reply.
And from that video, you can tell the veterans.
Of all the states in America .. why did they go to Texas I wonder? The "skit" would have been different "big time" with views ..if they would have went to New York City.
Last I knew ..
Stupid isn't a crime.
Gotta love us Happy People though. |

What do you mean by "a joke"?
Those people pretended to be stupid just for the show?
Or what? |
