Yeah, the first two years are really important...If the husband had a good job then yeah the wife should stay home, it would be unneccessary for her not to be ...but now if he didn't then I can see where she should find a part-time job to supplement the income..but I don't think anymore than that, because it would interfere...women should be active in something even if it's volunteer work or projects, I agree on that one...but when both the father and mother have busy, busy careers it blows structure right out of the water...I have seen young children home alone without their parents being around and those kids cook, clean. ect..I don't think it builds a very good bond between the parents and the children...they grow up to resent their parents.... Rolling Eyes just my opinion!!!

In the US, it's not always the necessity but the free choice of women who want to have more money, and want to work. They don't want to stay home and want other things in life - better clothes, better houses, etc.

I agree...but not all American women want that....it is nice to have clohes and few more dollars but it doesn't make everything...some get that when they stay home..and frankly, If I were married....I prefer to stay home and let someone else work...I am tired of working....let him do it...I know that is a bad view point...sorry....I could find all kinds of stuff to do at home....I wouldn't mind it at all and I wouldn't have a complaint...I would just get involved in something and be happy....but like I said in another post...you either work or starve...not all of us get lucky and marry a man with the ultimate job...especially in the south.... Wink

I have so many friends here who want it all...I guess though once the children appear then the careers for the women go on hold. I'd like to win the lottery so that we both can stay home..or hell why stay home maybe we'll just go some where.

wow, wouldn't that be great...but reality bites....doesn't it?....good thought, surfguy...we can dream.... Wink

Austrailia is great and I hope to return someday! Have friends in mermaid beach, and in Melbourne. West oz is known to be like California was 40 years ago. I found the people there to be great. I also thought Sydney was very scenic

It's a good place to live but too far away from the rest of the world. Travel is expensive and time consuming.

Don't know that I would like to go back 40 years though. My older siblings tell lots of horror stories of when they were growing up in the 50's and 60's. Being children of immigrant parents there were lots of racial taunts and instances of discrimination. Happily that's all in the past and these days we are a very multicultural society. Still treat our aboriginies very shabbily though.

jo jo 7, has the Swiss man ever been to Russia? He probably has a typically uninformed & negative Western-European attitude toward Russia. But if you're travelling alone and outside the U.S. for the first time, and speak only English, Russia is not the easiest destination. But it's well worth the effort, if you do your homework and plan your trip well. I'm sure Switzerland is just as beautiful as it looks on postcards, and in Rick Steeve's sleepy travel shows, but I think you can be a little more adventurous... do you like camping? It's a great way to see europe, and cheap, too!

The best times to visit Russia are in the early summer (May-June) and early autumn (September). The best time to visit Australia is in the spring and autumn - like Russia, the summer's a bit hot and the winter's a bit cold...

Having said that, I just met someone who's planning to visit Alice Springs and Ayers Rock (which are both in the central Australian desert) in mid-January Shocked And all predictions are that this summer will be especially hot in Australia.

I advised him to take a wide-brimmed hat and plenty of sunscreen. Laughing
