What do Russian's think of American women having a career and keeping a family at the same time?

Do you think careers can interfere with building a strong family culture?

Not to disturb you, but it is all-too-common for Russian families to have both partners working. And not too weird if the woman brings in more money than her husband. (and does most of the household work too :S )

I know a few women who have careers and children too...it's just too hard in today's world to survive with out both working. And our careers also give us a sense of identity and accomplishment. most of the Russian women whom I talked to who are divorced...stated that thier reasons for the divorce were because of infedelity

It is good to hear that. I have been reading all these books that most Russian women stay home and they ones who work are only allowed to work half a shift. I am one who wouldn't mind being home but here in the America you either work or starve...

Do you think when both parents work it interferes in keeping a strong family structue?

I think or I believe that one parent should stay home, but that's just my opinion..I don't see strong family structure when both are working... Wink

I think in the early years of childhood one should definitely stay home if at all possible. If I could afford not to have my spouse work then I'm all for it. But I think people need to be active, and have projects, and meaning to thier lives. Jobs and careers help to provide this. I think children need to see this too. But yeah in the first few years...I'd want you home Laughing

Yeah, the first two years are really important...If the husband had a good job then yeah the wife should stay home, it would be unneccessary for her not to be ...but now if he didn't then I can see where she should find a part-time job to supplement the income..but I don't think anymore than that, because it would interfere...women should be active in something even if it's volunteer work or projects, I agree on that one...but when both the father and mother have busy, busy careers it blows structure right out of the water...I have seen young children home alone without their parents being around and those kids cook, clean. ect..I don't think it builds a very good bond between the parents and the children...they grow up to resent their parents.... Rolling Eyes just my opinion!!!

Thats' strange, because I have heard the total opposite. Does businesses in Russia have 2nd or 3rd shifts?...Does housewives work 8 hours too, like the men?...just asking!!! Wink

In the US, it's not always the necessity but the free choice of women who want to have more money, and want to work. They don't want to stay home and want other things in life - better clothes, better houses, etc.

Women are far more visible in the Russian workforce than men. They are behind counters, driving trams and busses, cleaning, waitressing and lots more. Women also have a far stronger work ethic there than the men, it's deeply ingrained in them.

In the families that I know there, women also control the domestic finances in most cases and do all the housework as well. Men there have a good life.

I guess I should stop reading all the books...then all the Russian women are just like some of the American women...here in Kentucky it is the same...women who work still have to keep the house, cook...ect...men watch TV or mow the grass. Wink

Why don't they mow the grass as well?

Seriously though, I think some of the reading you have been doing has given you a bit of a rose coloured view. It's not really all romance and fun. A lot of people do it very hard and I think that you will be shocked by the reality of the way that the average Russian lives.

I might be shocked when I go to Russia...but I know Russians except their way of living and I have to respect that...I know it isn't all romance...I would be an idiot to think that everything is hunky dory over there but I do know that Russians seem to be happy and that is what is important..they accept their way of living...and when something better goes their way they don't bolst about, they bless it...that is what I am saying...I need to see for myself.... Wink

Were you asking if the women mow or the men?..American women mow...but I think that should be the mens' job not the womens'.....you won't see me mow the lawn....
